Yun Li lay on her bed, glancing at her phone; it was already past eleven at night. The dormitory lights had been turned off, and the soft glow illuminated her face. Her father had bought her a ticket for the high-speed rail that departed at nine in the morning. Jiangzhou was far from Jing City, and the journey would take over five hours.
She memorized the train information as she looked it over. Next door, Qin Nianchu was chatting in their WeChat group. The group consisted of a few close friends.
Nian Nian Dao Dao: "You guys should have seen how fierce Li Li was when she confronted Zheng Yating. It was epic!"
Philosopher: "Zheng Yating? Isn’t she A Yu’s ex-girlfriend?"
Sunny Day: "What? What? How did Yun Li get involved with Brother Yu’s ex?"
Little Xing'an Ridge: "Yu, come explain this!"
Seeing their misunderstanding, Nianchu quickly clarified.
Nian Nian Dao Dao: "Yun Li isn’t interested in Jiang Shiyu, so don’t overthink it. It was Zheng Yating who was barking like a mad dog. I guess at the last gathering, she thought Yun Li liked Jiang Shiyu and said something about how Jiang Shiyu doesn’t like Yun Li."
"That really ticked me off, and then Yun Li struck back, saying she didn’t know what he liked, but she knew he definitely wouldn’t like someone like you."
"Hahaha, that felt so good! It cleared my mind completely; Zheng Yating’s face turned green at that moment."
Philosopher: "Yun Li, my goddess, you’re so cool!"
Sunny Day: "..."
Little Xing'an Ridge: "..."
The next morning, Yun Li got up at eight to wash up. She didn’t put on any makeup and simply let her hair down as she grabbed her suitcase and left. She had brought back some summer clothes but hadn’t had time to return home since National Day, so she usually opted to bring a few winter clothes back with her during that holiday.
Arriving at the high-speed rail station, Yun Li made her way to the ticket gate. With still over ten minutes until boarding, she entered the first-class waiting area and sat down, looking at her phone.
She chatted in the group with Qin Nianchu and Chen Jin Xiu.
In a Fog: "I’m at the high-speed rail station now; where are you guys?"
Xiu'er: "I just woke up and plan to eat before heading home."
Qin Nianchu sent a message with a picture: "I’m already on the plane, my phone will shut off soon."
Yun Li opened the image, seeing Qin Nianchu on the plane, capturing the tarmac through the window. Her hair fell just below her shoulders, and as she slightly lowered her head to look at her phone, some strands obscured part of her face. Her lively almond-shaped eyes sparkled with a hint of a smile, glistening like water—truly beautiful.
She wore a white spaghetti strap top paired with loose gray pants, fresh and simple, clean and soft.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, enveloping her completely. Yun Li looked up to see a man bending down slightly. His usually indifferent peach blossom eyes now held a gentle smile, and his voice was lazy and deep: "Yun Li."
Those four words struck Yun Li's heart, leaving her momentarily stunned and making her speech feel awkward.
"What are you doing here?"
Jiang Shiyu straightened up, maintaining his relaxed demeanor with an air of nonchalance. "Of course I’m here to take the train. Would I come here just to stroll around?"
His tone was teasing.
Yun Li stood up, needing to tilt her head slightly to meet his gaze. "I didn’t expect to run into you here."
Doesn’t he usually fly? Why is he suddenly taking the high-speed rail?
Jiang Shiyu lightly twisted the handle of his suitcase, aligning it properly before sitting down next to Yun Li. "I couldn’t get a plane ticket, so I bought a high-speed rail ticket instead."
So that’s how it is; how lucky! Yun Li thought to herself.
"Which station are you going to in Jiangzhou?"
Jiang Shiyu touched his cigarette pack, considering having one but ultimately deciding against it after glancing at Yun Li. His throat moved as he spoke, his voice slightly hoarse: "South Station."
Yun Li’s eyes brightened with excitement: "Me too!"
Jiang Shiyu raised an eyebrow slightly, a casual smile forming at the corners of his mouth. "What a coincidence."
Yun Li nodded with a light smile.
Jiang Shiyu opened his phone just as it rang. His carefree expression shifted instantly to one of mild annoyance as he answered the call. After hanging up, another call came through immediately; he hung up again and blocked the number without hesitation.
A minute later, his phone rang again. Jiang Shiyu clicked his tongue in frustration but relaxed slightly when he glanced at the screen.
He answered the call, but what was said on the other end was inaudible to Yun Li; she could only observe his reactions discreetly.
