He spoke very sincerely.
Yun sighed and hugged her knees.
"But I believe you can make it," he added.
"Why?"
"I feel like you can get in." The boy turned to look at her, a smile dancing in his Peach Blossom Eyes.
Yun felt her face flush, lowering her head so her hair covered her cheeks. She had never interacted with a boy like this before; it was her first time sitting together and chatting about such things, and she felt quite shy.
At thirteen, she was starting to understand a bit more.
Talking to someone lightened her mood; it wasn't as heavy as before. Yun had grown accustomed to hiding everything in her heart, and after suppressing it for so long, there would come a day when she couldn't hold it in any longer.
Yun stood up and said, "Wait a moment."
With that, she ran off.
The boy didn't ask questions or follow; he just sat on the bench, looking up at the night sky.
A few minutes later, Yun returned, panting and holding a flashlight, her cheeks flushed from the cold.
"Here." She handed him a band-aid. "You have a cut on your forehead; you should take care of it."
The boy took it, tore open the packaging and the protective layer, but after searching for a while, he couldn't find where the cut was.
"I'll help you." Saying this, she took the band-aid and carefully applied it for him.
"All done. Remember to use iodine to disinfect it."
The boy nodded and stood up, looking down at her. "Where do you live? I'll walk you home; your parents will worry if you're out this late."
He walked Yun to her home; the park wasn't far from the Yun Family residence, and they arrived in about five or six minutes.
"By the way, what's your name? From now on, we're friends, but you can't tell anyone about this."
The boy raised an eyebrow and smiled. "What? Are you running away from home?"
Yun's face flashed with embarrassment; she felt somewhat awkward. "I told you it's not running away."
"Jiang Shiyu."
"Huh?" Yun didn't quite catch that at first.
I, Jiang Shiyu, attended Experimental Middle School.
Yun smiled, her eyes bright and round like apricots, catching him off guard. He fell silent, unable to respond.
When they reached the residential building, they ran into Yun's parents who had come out looking for her.
"Mom!" Yun exclaimed, startled, and immediately rushed into her mother's embrace, tears streaming down her face.
Jiang Shiyu watched from the side, thinking to himself that she must have taken after her mother. However, her mother looked at her with love.
Father Yun let out a sigh of relief. "Alright, just remember to tell your mom and dad about anything in the future. Don't run off without telling us, okay?"
Yun nodded, "Mm, I understand, Dad. I'm sorry for worrying you both."
Father Yun turned to Jiang Shiyu and asked, "Are you a classmate of ours?"
Jiang Shiyu shook his head but then recalled what she had just said and added two words: "Friend."
Father Yun nodded appreciatively. "Thank you for bringing our girl home. You should head back too! Don’t let your parents worry."
Jiang Shiyu remained silent, simply nodding as his gaze dimmed; his mother wouldn’t worry about him.
Yun waved cheerfully at him. "Goodbye, Jiang Shiyu!"
Watching the three of them ascend the stairs, Jiang Shiyu felt a surge of envy welling up in his eyes.
Yun had passed both her exams and to celebrate her acceptance into Jiangzhou Dance Academy Affiliated School, her family prepared a feast since she wouldn’t be able to enjoy such meals once she started attending Affiliated High School.
For several days, Yun Lian returned to the park where she had previously met him but never encountered him again.
Finally, when Experimental Middle School began its term, she waited there in hopes of running into Jiang Shiyu; Affiliated High School started later, giving her time to stake out.
At five o'clock when school ended, Jiang Shiyu stood out in the crowd, surrounded by others with a smile on his lips and an air of carefree mischief about him—different from how he had been that day.
Yun felt a rush of joy as she approached him and waved enthusiastically when their eyes met.
But Jiang Shiyu coldly averted his gaze and walked away.
Yun was stunned; she knew he had seen her but chose to walk away without wanting any connection with her.
Tears brimmed in Yun's eyes as she mourned the loss of a friend.
Finally, she went to Affiliated High School. Every day was exhausting, but she still found herself thinking about him from time to time. Her friend Shu was at Experimental Middle School, and she began to inquire about Jiang Shiyu's situation. Gradually, her feelings for him transformed from friendship into a secret crush.
Years had passed, and it seemed he had not recognized her; he truly didn't value her as a friend. With so many friends around him, he certainly didn't need her.
