The Jiang Bao family smiled, choosing not to speak or engage in an argument with Chu Mei. However, once Chu Mei started talking, there was no stopping her.
"By the way, could this Jiang Chen be your daughter's boyfriend? He’s somewhat handsome," Chu Mei asked.
"No, how could a boyfriend call her 'sister'?" the Jiang Bao family explained.
"That's good to hear. Jiang Lu is beautiful and not too young anymore; she should be dating. I'm not an outsider, so there's no need to hide it from me," Chu Mei said with a cheerful demeanor, though her expression always carried an underlying coldness.
"Hehe, Xiao Lu hasn't even graduated from college yet; she doesn't know how to date," the Jiang Bao family replied.
Hearing this, Chu Mei nodded. "I thought so too. Xiao Lu is becoming more refined; her standards must be high. When she looks for a boyfriend, you all need to keep an eye on it. She shouldn’t end up with someone as honest as Jiang Chen," Chu Mei said earnestly, as if suggesting that if Jiang Lu were to date someone like Jiang Chen, it would be a disadvantage.
"That's right, that's right," the Jiang Bao family responded dismissively with a forced laugh.
Jiang Chen sat nearby, scrolling through his phone. Hearing their conversation, he merely smiled faintly. Aunt Chu had a personality that thrived on showing off; she couldn't go a day without boasting. This time, having returned home in style, she naturally wanted to flaunt her success in front of old friends, albeit subtly.
To Jiang Chen, Chu Mei's bragging seemed childish and ridiculous. Nevertheless, to maintain harmony among them, he pretended not to understand and played along with her act to satisfy her vanity.
"Time to eat," Zhou Rongli called out.
"Let’s all go eat," the Jiang Bao family sighed in relief; he truly couldn’t continue the conversation with Chu Mei any longer and was glad for the excuse to escape.
Chu Mei then pulled her daughter up from her seat.
"Zhou Rongli, it's so much easier to eat out at a restaurant than cooking at home; it's too much trouble," Chu Mei insisted before they began eating.
"Do you dislike my cooking?" Zhou Rongli pretended to be angry.
"Of course not! I remember coming over to your house for meals all the time before. Zhou Rongli, hurry and wash your hands; I have a gift for you," Chu Mei said with a smile.
"What gift?" Zhou Rongli asked in mild surprise but went to wash her hands nonetheless. Once everyone was seated at the dining table, Chu Mei took out a Cartier bracelet from her bag.
"I saw this bracelet while shopping and thought it suited your style perfectly, so I bought it. I was going to send it to you but since I'm back now, I brought it along," Chu Mei said as she handed over the bracelet with a smile.
Zhou Rongli took the bracelet and instinctively looked at the price tag—over one hundred thousand.
"This bracelet is too expensive! I can't accept this," Zhou Rongli exclaimed in shock and quickly tried to return it.
"It is a bit pricey, but our friendship over the years can't be measured by money. This is Cartier's latest model; take it! One hundred thousand isn't much for me—I spend millions on beauty treatments every year," Chu Mei laughed, embodying the image of a wealthy woman.
Zhou Rongli felt somewhat touched; despite Chu Mei's tendency to show off, she was genuinely kind-hearted.
"Then I'll accept it," Zhou Rongli said, seeing Chu Mei's insistence. He thought to himself that he would return the favor later; after all, his son was doing well now, so giving a valuable gift was not an issue.
"Put it on now," Chu Mei said with a smile.
"Alright, I'll wear it now," Zhou Rongli replied as he slipped the bracelet onto his wrist.
