As Lingwen Academy thrived and the Lingyuan Realm gradually moved towards prosperity, Yun Yichen detected a faint anomaly during his routine spiritual energy sensing practice. This fluctuation was extremely subtle; if it weren't for his long-term training and an extraordinary sensitivity to changes in spiritual energy, he would have easily overlooked it. Frowning, Yun Yichen focused his mind, attempting to trace the source of this mysterious disturbance.
Utilizing the Lingyuan Eye, he gazed in the direction of the fluctuation and discovered that this power seemed to emanate from the outskirts of the Lingyuan Realm. It was a mysterious unknown area shrouded in thick fog, rarely visited since ancient times. Yun Yichen understood that this mysterious fluctuation could herald a new threat approaching the Lingyuan Realm.
Determined to uncover the truth behind this disturbance, Yun Yichen decided to personally investigate the edge of the Lingyuan Realm. He informed the teachers and students of Lingwen Academy, as well as members of the Lingyuan Alliance Council, urging them to bolster their defenses. He also arranged for several powerful disciples to remain at the academy and Lingyuan Sect as a precaution.
Setting out alone towards the edge of the Lingyuan Realm, Yun Yichen traversed dense forests, barren deserts, and treacherous mountains. At each location, he paused to carefully sense the surrounding changes in spiritual energy, seeking more clues about the mysterious fluctuation. However, as he drew closer to the edge of the Lingyuan Realm, the disturbance grew fainter, as if deliberately concealing itself.
Finally, Yun Yichen arrived at the fog-covered area at the edge of the Lingyuan Realm. As soon as he stepped in, a bone-chilling cold enveloped him, and the world around him was instantly obscured by thick mist with very low visibility. He immediately activated the Chaos Lingwen, forming a protective barrier around himself to fend off the cold while also attempting to disperse the fog to see his surroundings clearly.
However, this mist seemed to possess some mysterious power; Yun Yichen's Lingwen abilities could barely carve out a small clear space around him. Cautiously feeling his way forward, he suddenly heard a deep growl emanating from within the fog. Moments later, a massive Mist Beast burst forth from the mist. This creature was enormous, exuding icy vapor from its body; its eyes glowed with an eerie blue light as it exhaled a powerful chill that froze everything in its path.
Yun Yichen quickly unleashed an attack using Chaos Lingwen, sending a beam of light towards the Mist Beast. However, its body seemed composed of mist; the light passed right through it without inflicting any damage. Alarmed by this realization, Yun Yichen understood that this Mist Beast was formidable and that ordinary attacks would be ineffective against it.
Immediately altering his strategy, he employed a binding technique from Chaos Lingwen in an attempt to trap the Mist Beast. A beam of Lingwen light flashed by as the creature became ensnared by Lingwen ropes. Yet, despite its entrapment, the Mist Beast struggled fiercely; its immense strength began to loosen the bindings.
During his battle with the Mist Beast, Yun Yichen noticed that its power was closely linked to the surrounding mist. Each time it was attacked, mist would rapidly gather around it, bolstering its strength. Realizing this connection needed severing first, he unleashed a dispersal technique from Chaos Lingwen, directing his powerful Lingwen energy towards the surrounding fog in an effort to dissipate it.
After considerable effort, Yun Yichen finally succeeded in clearing some of the mist surrounding the Mist Beast. Deprived of its mist-enhanced power, its strength noticeably diminished. Seizing this opportunity, Yun Yichen unleashed his strongest attack from Chaos Lingwen —a powerful beam of light struck down upon the Mist Beast, defeating it completely.
With the Mist Beast vanquished, Yun Yichen pressed deeper into the foggy area. As he ventured further in, he felt that mysterious fluctuation intensifying while also sensing an evil aura nearby. His heart tightened; he knew he was about to confront a powerful and unknown enemy.
Suddenly, a black light appeared ahead, prompting Yun Yichen to become alert. A figure slowly emerged from within this black light—cloaked entirely in dark robes with a black mask obscuring its face. The malevolent aura radiating from it made Yun Yichen feel nauseous.
“Who are you? Why are you here?” Yun Yichen demanded loudly. The figure in black chuckled coldly and replied, “Who I am is unimportant; what matters is that doom is approaching for Lingyuan Realm. Do you think defeating mysterious forces means you can rest easy? How naive!” With that declaration, the figure unleashed a powerful dark force towards Yun Yichen.
Yun Yichen quickly activated Chaos Lingwen and engaged in fierce combat with the figure in black. The dark powers were immensely strong; each attack carried tremendous force that caused Yun Yichen's protective barrier to flicker dangerously close to breaking.
During their battle, Yun Yichen realized that this dark power differed significantly from what he had encountered before—it was more bizarre and potent than anything he'd faced previously. Acknowledging that he was up against an unprecedented challenge did not deter him; fueled by unwavering determination and formidable Lingwen energy, he fought fiercely against this foe.
Employing various techniques from Chaos Lingwen in search of weaknesses in his opponent’s defenses, Yun Yichen noted that although each attack from the figure was powerful, there were brief pauses between strikes. Seizing one such moment, he launched a full-force strike—a beam of Chaos Radiance struck true against his adversary. The figure emitted a muffled groan and staggered slightly but quickly resumed its assault.
As their battle wore on, fatigue began to take its toll on Yun Yichen. The dark powers seemed endless as they relentlessly pressured him. Just when despair began to creep into his heart, he suddenly remembered the Five Sacred Artifacts. Quickly retrieving them and merging their powers together, he unleashed his most potent attack—a dazzling burst of multicolored light struck directly at the figure in black.
The figure let out a pained howl as its form began to dissipate slowly. Before vanishing completely, it left behind one final ominous statement: “This is just the beginning…” Staring at where the figure had disappeared from view filled Yun Yichen with confusion and concern; he understood that an even greater crisis loomed over Lingyuan Realm and that he needed to find a solution swiftly.
