Just as they were about to continue their journey after a brief rest, a man suddenly burst out from the nearby forest. He was dressed in a deep blue outfit and appeared to be around forty years old. His expression was frantic, and he clutched something resembling a bundle in his arms, panting heavily.
Yang Qinghe was about to chase after him when he noticed two men emerging behind the first man. He signaled for the others to stay put while he stealthily followed.
The two men behind were agile and clearly not ordinary farmers; their identities were highly suspicious. Just as they were about to catch up with the man in front, several dark figures suddenly charged out of the woods, scattering all three of them.
Upon closer inspection, Yang Qinghe saw that they were two robust wild boars. The boars seemed crazed, charging at anything in sight as if they had taken some sort of stimulant.
In the chaos, the man's bundle fell to the ground, and its contents rolled out. Yang Qinghe recognized it immediately—it was a Wireless Transmitter. This meant that the man ahead was undoubtedly an Agent. But who were the people chasing him?
He hadn’t heard from his superiors about anyone else being sent besides them. Yang Qinghe maintained his distance, opting to remain still for the moment.
The man in front bent down to retrieve the fallen item when suddenly, the two men behind pulled out guns. Bang! Bang! The two wild boars collapsed, posing no threat to them at all.
“Brothers, whatever you want, I’ll give it to you! Just don’t kill me!” The man seemed to surrender, but secretly began reaching for his own weapon—an action that Yang Qinghe observed clearly.
Then came another pair of gunshots, and this time it was the two men pursuing him who fell. The man in front appeared timid and didn’t seem like someone who would carry a gun. Perhaps that was why the two men behind had let their guard down.
Hmph!
The man let out a cold laugh, bending down to pick up the Wireless Transmitter. After inspecting it, he concluded that there seemed to be no problem.
"Come out from the shadows, my friend! Whether you are foe or ally, you can't just keep hiding like a turtle!"
Yang Qinghe had already tried his best to lower his body and conceal his presence, but unexpectedly, the other party still noticed him. It seemed this person was not simple.
Yang Qinghe cautiously stepped forward, especially since the man was armed.
The man sized up Yang Qinghe from head to toe and had a basic understanding of the situation. This man had followed him all the way without rushing to attack; was he trying to play the long game?
If he was sent by Huaxia to capture him, there would surely be more than just him here. Confronting him head-on might not be wise.
"Comrade, you are here to capture an Agent sent by the higher-ups, right?"
The man suddenly retracted his menacing aura, his tone becoming somewhat stiff.
Seeing that Yang Qinghe remained silent, he continued with his act.
"Finally found the organization! Comrade, those two who were chasing me are Agents from the Island Nation! Once, they used this device to send messages, and I secretly saw it. Taking advantage of their moment of inattention, I stole this device, which led them to chase me all the way here!"
Yang Qinghe did not believe a word of what he said. After all, he appeared with a transmitter in hand and was quite skilled; plus, he had a gun, which was very suspicious.
The man appeared somewhat nervous and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
He had made up his mind: if stalling tactics failed, he would shoot this man dead without hesitation.
He knew that Huaxia treated prisoners well, especially those in military service; they would hardly resort to extrajudicial punishment.
"Comrade, you must believe me; everything I say is true! I am just the Accountant from this village, a native of Qingfeng Village. If you don’t believe me, go ask around in the village!"
The man pretended to look exhausted, trying to make Yang Qinghe lower his guard.
"The people from the Island Nation came here because there is something extremely important hidden in our squad. However, I cannot disclose its contents; I just want to send this message out so that our people know."
The man was not giving up; he gambled on Yang Qinghe's ignorance about these matters, believing he still had a chance to send out the message.
"Why do you have a gun? Can you even use it?"
"Ah, well, I used to be a Militia Captain, so I know a bit about both sending messages and shooting. As for this gun, I took it when I stole the transmitter!"
"From what you're saying, you really are one of us?"
"Of course! We are all Huaxia people; why would I harm my own compatriots?"
The man felt a surge of joy in his heart, believing that his cunning plan had succeeded. He then began to fiddle with the radio in his hands.
