The formation of the wolf pack was flawless, each wolf baring its sharp teeth, some even drooling. The encirclement gradually tightened, and the few police officers trapped within stood back to back, afraid to make any sudden moves. They could only be restrained by the wolves, leading them deeper into the forest.
"Li Team, I'm scared! I haven't even married yet!" one officer exclaimed.
"Shut up! Why do I feel like these wolves have no intention of eating us?" another replied.
"If they’re not going to eat us, then why surround us? Are they planning to drive us back to their lair to feast on us there?"
"That doesn’t seem likely. They haven’t attacked us yet; it’s almost like they’re forcing us to retreat!"
"This is too strange! I’m still scared!"
"Calm down and don’t provoke them. Let’s just observe for now."
As the police were pushed further into the forest by the wolves, Lai Fu leaped into a nearby vehicle.
"Lai Fu? Is that you?" one of the officers called out.
Wang Jianjun had thought he was surely doomed when he first saw the wolves, but upon seeing Lai Fu, he realized that this pack might actually be his rescue team.
"Jianjun, let’s go!" Lai Fu urged.
Wang Zhao opened the car door and hoisted Wang Jianjun onto his back. Not far away was a Jeep that he had managed to procure with great difficulty.
"Zhao, is that really you?" Wang Jianjun nearly burst into tears, his body trembling uncontrollably.
"Don’t say anything now; Yu Suihuan is here too!"
At that moment, Yu Suihuan drove the Jeep out, branches and leaves falling from its body as it emerged from hiding.
"I... I don’t deserve this," Wang Jianjun said through tears as he sat in the vehicle. After days of hardship, he looked utterly worn out.
"We’ve been together for so long; I know you well enough to know you’re worth it," Wang Zhao reassured him.
"But... but I’m a murderer! I don’t want to drag you down. Just leave me behind!"
Wang Jianjun's stubble nearly covered half of his face, and his eyes were red from crying.
"Why would you throw me down? Are you trying to feed me to the wolves? We've already done it, so stop being so wishy-washy!"
Yu Suihuan drove quickly, and before long, they reached the outskirts of the town.
"The target is too big. Zhao, switch to the Ox Cart!"
The two of them worked together to help Wang Jianjun onto the Ox Cart, wrapping him up securely. Although Wang Jianjun had been rescued, he couldn't appear openly in front of everyone. In this era, one needed a letter of introduction everywhere, making it incredibly difficult to move around. Unless he hid deep in the mountains and forests, away from prying eyes.
"Zhao, did you know there's a secret passage in the ancestral home?"
"I know. Old Lady didn't keep it from me; she told me about it before!"
"Then let's settle Jian Jun there for now and take it step by step!"
Yu Suihuan understood that hiding in the secret passage wouldn't be easy. It would be better to send them into a safe space where they could live comfortably and also help Jie and Zheng Xiu a bit. But with the current timing, how could she explain to Wang Zhao if she brought Wang Jianjun and his wife into that space now?
Once everything was settled, Yu Suihuan asked Wang Zhao, "How are you feeling with the college entrance exams just a few days away?"
"What can I say? This big oaf is about to become a person; I feel a bit embarrassed!"
If it weren't for meeting Yu Suihuan, Wang Zhao's life would definitely not be what it is now. Participating in the college entrance exams was something he never even dared to dream of. Therefore, Yu Suihuan was the most important benefactor in his life and also the person he loved the most.
