As they finished their meal, Gu Ting glanced at Yu Songyu beside him.
"Xiao Yu, I bought two movie tickets for tonight. Do you have time to go?"
Gu Ting felt more nervous than ever before; not only was he anxious, but he also feared rejection from her.
"Eh? Ting Ge, I’m free! I’ll go with you!"
Before Yu Songyu could respond, Yu Songbai jumped in to speak.
Mother Yu shot him a glare, and he quickly settled down, confused about why his mother was upset with him. As the saying goes, ignoring the advice of elders leads to trouble; listening to them is always wise!
"Do you have time? What’s the name of the movie?"
Yu Songyu had seen some old films, but she had never watched any from the Era.
"Seagull Flying Place!"
"Oh, sounds good!"
Yu Songyu responded eagerly, thinking that this film from the Era would be similar to those classic ones featuring bright red stars.
Gu Ting seemed taken aback by her enthusiastic response, a subtle smile flickering in his eyes.
The cinema was bustling with people, all dressed neatly and cleanly, a stark contrast to the rural setting she was used to. She felt curious about everyone around her, her attention fully captured by the stream of people entering the theater.
Who would have thought that a modern girl like her could watch a movie alongside these people from the Era? It truly felt wonderful!
Yu Songyu looked around with sparkling eyes, like brilliant stars in the night sky, capturing Gu Ting's attention completely.
"Ting Ge!"
When Yu Songyu turned around and saw Gu Ting lost in thought, she gently called out to him.
Her soft voice made Gu Ting's heart skip a beat.
"Hey, what are you thinking about? The movie has already started!"
Yu Songyu playfully waved her little hand in front of Gu Ting's eyes, bringing him back to reality.
I find myself thinking about the little tail that once followed me, now grown so big!
He couldn’t speak the truth outright; even if he wanted to express his affection, he couldn’t be so direct for fear of scaring her.
“Hahaha, Ting Ge, you sound just like my dad!”
Yu Songyu found it amusing. The man in front of her was only a few years older than she was, yet he acted like a protective father.
“But you don’t need to worry. Your little tail has grown up and can protect herself now!”
“Mm, that’s right. Let’s watch a movie!”
Gu Ting affectionately ruffled Yu Songyu’s hair, just like they used to when they were kids.
This gesture suddenly reminded Yu Songyu of Yang Qinghe. She wondered how he had been these days; she found herself missing him a bit!
Thinking of this made Yu Songyu smile shyly, realizing that this was what it meant to care for someone.
Unexpectedly, the movie turned out to be a work by Aunt Yao. It primarily told the story of a journalist who, while on a business trip by boat, encountered a woman who almost fell into the sea due to heartbreak.
Her name was Seagull; she had killed her husband in a moment of betrayal. The male lead wanted to call and help Seagull find out if her husband was truly dead at her hands, but in the blink of an eye, she vanished.
Later, during another business trip, the male lead met a singer who looked exactly like Seagull. He thought they were merely similar and spent some wonderful time with her.
When they parted, he not only left his address but also gave her some money. However, upon returning home, all the letters he sent her were returned, leaving him quite distressed.
His sister suggested he meet one of her classmates, and lo and behold, he saw another woman who looked just like Seagull and the singer.
After asking around, he discovered that this woman knew nothing about the previous events, which left him very disappointed.
Yu Songyu watched the movie intently, unaware that at that moment she had become a scenery in someone else’s eyes.
Gu Ting gazed at Yu Songyu in a daze. The day he recognized her on the train made his heart tremble uncontrollably; his gaze lingered on her without restraint.
Leaving her felt like a hundred claws scratching at his heart; he truly wanted to ask her out but couldn’t find an appropriate excuse.
As the movie ended, Gu Ting remained lost in his own world. He had no idea what the film was really about.
"Brother Ting?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you even listening to me?"
Gu Ting found himself at a loss for words. He hadn't really watched many movies, so what could he possibly contribute to the discussion?
