"Alright then, you have to keep in touch with me often!"
"Sure!"
Yu Songyu recalled the time when they first met as children. Back then, she didn't like Jie getting too close to her. In kindergarten, no one wanted to play with her because Jie was a timid and cowardly little crybaby.
Once, a few boys tugged at her braids until she cried out in pain, yet she didn't fight back. Yu Songyu couldn't stand it any longer and ran over, giving each of those boys a kick. The other kids in class knew that although Yu Songyu looked delicate, she had quite a fierce temperament. The boys didn’t want to provoke her and left in disgrace.
From that day on, Jie became her little shadow. Although Yu Songyu didn’t particularly like it, there was nothing she could do about it. As they grew up, Jie not only clung to her but often gazed at her with starry eyes, as if looking at an idol. This made Yu Songyu feel a chill run down her spine.
Looking back now, she realized how blind she had been; she had treated Chen Luzhi so well, only to end up with this outcome. Yet Jie, who had never thought highly of her, turned out to be the one who stood by her side during times of crisis.
After bidding farewell to Jie, Yu Songyu checked the time and saw that it was still early. The mall should still be open, so she decided to buy a few things. She remembered that when she last placed her suitcase in the space, she had specifically checked the battery level on her phone.
Days had passed, and surprisingly, her phone's battery hadn’t drained at all. Although she doubted whether she had misread it, she wanted to verify if items placed in the space would remain unchanged after some time.
After wandering around the mall for a while, she bought two Down Jacket Vests and three sets of thick thermal underwear. She planned to give a set to Aunt Wang since she was staying at Aunt Wang's house and felt it was only right to bring a small gift.
Yu Songyu chose a pair of red leather gloves and a red cashmere scarf for herself. In addition to these, she stocked up on several boxes of sanitary products and a dagger; beyond that, she hadn’t thought of anything else yet.
"Xiao Yu!"
Just as she was about to leave, an unexpected voice rang out.
"Xiao Yu!"
Yu Songyu's heart tightened; she was all too familiar with that voice.
She didn't actually want to turn around, but her body betrayed her.
"Xiao Yu, where have you been all these days? Why didn't you answer your phone? I couldn't find you anywhere. Do you know how worried I've been?"
Yu Songyu stepped back to avoid Chi Hao's embrace, her expression indifferent.
"Aren't you more worried about Chen Luzhi?"
"What Chen Luzhi? What are you talking about? Where have you been lately? Are you intentionally avoiding me?"
"If you weren't doing anything wrong or feeling guilty, why would you think I was avoiding you?"
Seeing his flawless act, Yu Songyu felt a pang of bitterness in her heart.
Chi Hao was momentarily stunned, unsure of how to respond.
"Chi Hao, aren't you tired of acting in front of me? I already know everything about you and Chen Luzhi!"
At that moment, Chi Hao's face darkened as he stepped closer.
"Xiao Yu, things aren't what you think. Chen Luzhi set me up and deliberately got me drunk—"
"Stop! I don't have the time or the mood to listen to your nonsense right now. Don't you want to know where Chen Luzhi is? Well, let me tell you!"
Yu Songyu flashed a smile, feigning mystery as she gestured for Chi Hao to come closer, her lips brushing against his ear.
"I killed her. Piece by piece, and dumped her body in the wilderness. Hurry up and call the police to arrest me!"
Chi Hao's expression changed drastically; he couldn't believe that Yu Songyu would do such a thing.
The woman before him, whom he had cherished for so many years, he knew better than anyone what kind of person she was.
If it weren't for that despicable Chen Luzhi using Xiao Yu's name to lure him out and drugging him when he was off guard, how could he have done something to betray Xiao Yu?
Afterward, when he was blackmailed with photos from that night, he could only temporarily compromise with Chen Luzhi to maintain his image in front of Xiao Yu. He felt tormented inside but couldn't express it.
By the time he came back to his senses, the little woman had already vanished without a trace.
He wanted to chase after her, to explain everything. But Xiao Yu must have grown completely disgusted with him by now, hadn't she?
