"I was wondering why the Evil Mage had such a bad reputation, but now I get it. With all the village massacres, he really deserves it," another added.
"Hahaha, looks like the Evil Mage has kicked a steel plate this time."
Faced with Xu Lie's mocking question, Maizhe could only think of a few curse words. How could he laugh when he was outnumbered four to one?
Only Maizhe couldn't see the audience's Danmaku. If he could, he would probably be shouting back at them across dimensions. If this were in their Evil Mage stronghold, with all sorts of pre-drawn magic circles to assist him, Maizhe might have had some confidence. But now, fighting on enemy territory and facing multiple opponents, how could he still find anything funny?
Don't worry. Xu Lie wanted to see this tool's full strength; he couldn't let the opponent focus solely on escaping. "We won't intervene," he said. "As long as you can defeat him." He pointed at Charles in front of Maizhe. "We'll let you go."
Charles nodded gently, indicating that Xu Lie was not lying. He understood what Mr. Xu meant: to have him face the Evil Mage one-on-one.
This served two purposes: to assess his own strength or that of Anthony and the two Bionic Persons' capabilities. Xu Lie had spent a lot of money acquiring a Legendary Mage; in the world of Ben Huo, that was basically top-tier level. It was hard to say how strong he and Anthony were; they needed a willing tool to test against.
Despite having many teachers and students at Truth School, none were suitable for this role because if Charles were to engage in a life-and-death struggle, it would be an all-out fight. The teachers and students at Truth School wouldn't be able to contribute much in this regard.
At least when facing non-Evil Mage opponents, due to the nature of Idealism Magic, the teachers' magic would be significantly weakened. Moreover, Xu Lie intended for Anthony and Charles to serve as combat instructors at Truth School. Finding an Evil Mage for practice would also help them impart experience to students on how to combat Evil Mages in the future.
Maizhe scoffed at Xu Lie's suggestion, his eyes flashing with anger. Did they think he was a fool? Who didn't know that everyone wanted to take down an Evil Mage?
Whenever there is an opportunity, the Ordinary Mage would launch a Justice Group Assault, determined to eliminate every Evil Mage. How could he possibly let someone go after winning a one-on-one duel?
Feeling the blood-red crystals on the back of his hands, Maizhe began to have second thoughts and prepared to find an opportunity to escape. Before he could think further, Charles made his move. Without any visible wand or equipment, he simply waved his hand and unleashed dozens of Firebirds.
Each Firebird was the size of a palm, engulfed in flames, trailing sparks as they flew, rushing towards Maizhe in relentless waves. The sheer number of Firebirds made it feel as though he was surrounded by a volcanic eruption.
Having seized the initiative, Charles did not remain idle; instead, he dashed forward. While maneuvering swiftly, he conjured a Magic Shield for himself and continued casting spells, sending out dozens of Sharp Wind Blades with a flick of his wrist.
Maizhe was no pushover either; he exerted all his strength to maintain the Magic Shield. At the same time, he stepped lightly, moving in a zigzag pattern to withstand the Firebird assault while secretly casting his signature spell, Silent Fear!
The hallmark of Dark Elemental Magic is its silence. Maizhe was particularly skilled in Negative Emotion Magic within Dark Magic. Silent Fear was his specialty, capable of instantly triggering all the fears lurking within the heart of his target.
