The artillery fire raged on, with both sides unleashing their fury. During the initial skirmish, there was still some restraint, but as the intensity of the conflict escalated, neither side could hold back.
In the Great Federation's Sherwood District, most cities lacked sufficient strategic depth, leading to straightforward tactics for the Great Federation. The plan was simple: bombard the area to clear a certain number of defensive positions before ground troops moved in to occupy and squeeze the enemy's space for survival.
The Military-Industrial Complex, of course, would not allow the enemy to advance unchallenged. They retaliated with their own bombardments—after all, wasn't it just artillery shells? When it came to quantity, the Military-Industrial Complex had no fear of any opponent.
Thus, their artillery strikes were far more intense and fierce than those of the Great Federation, making it impossible for the latter to deploy ground forces. The battlefield had devolved into a stalemate characterized by distant artillery fire and a lack of infantry charges.
The Great Federation was not about to give up; they employed every means at their disposal. Information warfare, cyber security battles, public opinion manipulation, and even the ancient tactic of cutting off supplies—all were utilized in an effort to crush the Military-Industrial Complex and reclaim the Sherwood District.
At the front-line command center overseeing this war was General Joseph of the Hawk Faction. With the battlefield locked in an artillery duel, Joseph knew he had to rely on other strategies to turn the tide.
While his staff brainstormed ideas, Joseph remained patient, focusing intently on the battle reports in hopes of gleaning some insight. He sighed, eventually setting down the reports and rubbing his temples—was he really feeling fatigued already? It was nothing like his younger days when he could study battle reports for three hours straight without a break.
Just as he contemplated calling his confidant for a cup of black coffee, his confidant hurriedly entered. Without needing to ask, Joseph noticed that his confidant's pace was quicker than usual; he knew that coffee would have to wait.
"What happened?" Joseph inquired.
His confidant saluted before handing over a tablet: "Urgent report from Anthony, Director of the Metropolitan Investigation Bureau and temporary leader of the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Agency's Stealth Team. I recorded our entire conversation; please review it."
Joseph took the tablet and watched as Anthony appeared on screen, looking visibly tense. "Report: The temporary Stealth Team has been discovered by the enemy."
I am currently out of contact with my team and being pursued by the Serpent organization under the Military-Industrial Complex. During my escape, I overheard a member of Serpent mention that there is a Tactical Nuclear Weapon hidden in the Military-Industrial Complex Headquarters Building. They are likely planning to use this Tactical Nuclear Weapon in the ongoing war, so the command center must remain vigilant!
The video content was brief, but the information it revealed was critically important. Even someone as battle-hardened as Joseph was taken aback. He instinctively stood up, gripping the tablet tightly, fearing he might miss even the slightest detail.
The air fell into an eerie silence for a few seconds before Joseph fixed his gaze on his confidant. "Is this information credible? Has Anthony verified it?"
This revelation startled Joseph; after all, it was just a civil war within the Great Federation—did they really need to resort to using a Nuclear Weapon? The confidant's expression was grave, but he shook his head in response: "Unknown."
Joseph's expression faltered as he realized how difficult it would be to confirm this information. The Tactical Nuclear Weapon would undoubtedly be stored in the most secretive location, and for a temporary Stealth Team to gather even a shred of information would be nothing short of miraculous. How could they possibly verify it further?
