William dared not stop for a moment as he dashed into the dark alley, using a running leap to vault over a high wall by stepping on a trash can. He occasionally utilized the surrounding objects to aid his climbing, leaving the onlookers in awe.
"Has William practiced parkour? He climbs those walls with such grace!"
"Run faster, William! If the Serpent Chasers catch up, it could be the end for you!"
"Ha! That guy in front, Danmaku, is quite the talent."
William could feel his heart racing wildly, like a pump working overtime to circulate blood throughout his body and provide him with the strength to keep moving. He had no idea how many walls he had scaled or where he was now; all he knew was that there was no sound behind him anymore.
Finally managing to suppress his urge to gasp for air, he tried to steady his breathing and remain as quiet as possible. Soon enough, he realized he didn’t need to be so cautious about his breathing because the noise around him had escalated.
A thunderous roar echoed continuously; the perimeter they had just passed through erupted in flames that shot into the sky! The overwhelming firepower seemed intent on illuminating the entire sky, tearing apart the darkness of night. The cacophony of artillery fire was more than enough to drown out even William's loudest breaths.
The sheer heat and metallic presence made him acutely aware of how insignificant a human could feel in the face of such power. And then, even more dramatic events unfolded.
Several armed helicopters soared from within the district, while armored vehicles rolled down the main road, gearing up for battle. Moments later, lights flickered on in countless homes around William. The atmosphere shifted from eerie silence to chaotic movement.
The tremendous noise of explosions, buzzing helicopters, and the relentless stream of armored vehicles made it clear to all residents of this city what was happening without them needing to ask: war had begun, and it was a civil war.
Only William, who had just escaped in a frenzy, was a beat behind in processing everything. He stood there, pondering what exactly was happening. This uncertainty gnawed at him until he finally came to a realization and slammed his fist against the wall beside him.
"Fack! The Great Federation is at war?! We, Rims, Mr. Anthony, are still here!!"
Damn it, damn it! How could they just throw them away like this? William was filled with rage, never having imagined that they would be treated as expendable pawns.
It wasn't just his Stealth Team; the entire city was likely crawling with hidden squads. And there were other Stealth Teams from different cities in the Xiwood region. How many infiltrators were lurking around, only to fall victim to friendly fire?
They didn’t even give a warning, not a single chance for them to retreat before severing communication.
The more William thought about it, the angrier he became, and he slammed his fists against the wall twice in frustration.
He could swear that if the Great Federation's Senior Management stood before him, he would make them feel the force of his punches.
The audience was no longer calm either, eagerly sending out Danmaku messages.
"Are they really going to fight? Is this war starting now? Wow, the Great Federation is so decisive! They’re coming in with artillery?"
"What about William? The Great Federation is ruthless; they don’t even care about their own intelligence operatives."
