William was being supported by Rims as they left East District Cross Street, occasionally grimacing in evident pain. Rims looked at William with admiration and said, "Thank the heavens. It's a good thing you were wearing a bulletproof vest; three bullets could have easily taken your life."
Perhaps the physical pain masked his mental distress, as William's mood was not as bleak as it had been that morning. He was even able to smile genuinely and replied, "It's nothing. We saved a lot of people, didn't we?"
At this, Rims chuckled proudly, "Absolutely! Dozens of businesses on East District Cross Street are especially grateful to us! With just two handguns, we managed to subdue a whole mob!"
When they reported to Director Anthony earlier, the chief had already promised them an emergency promotion tonight! Speaking of the suppression earlier at Cross Street and the impending promotion, Rims became animated, his words laced with the excitement of treating William to drinks later that evening.
Suddenly, a shadow loomed over William and the boasting Rims. Curiously, Rims looked up and exclaimed, "My God, it's getting dark so quickly! Fly, fly, fly! What the fack!"
"Fly what?" William tilted his head back in confusion, wondering what Rims had seen. He couldn't fathom what could be worthy of such an exclamation.
Then he saw it—a massive UFO radiating an eerie white light, silently hovering into view! There was no sound at all; it was like a ghost from a horror story, stirring neither a breeze nor a current of air.
The UFO that had appeared at the port last night had now made its way to the Metropolitan East District! William's body trembled uncontrollably again as his teeth clattered together involuntarily. The despair from last night's near nuclear explosion loomed heavily in his heart.
Why would a UFO appear in the metropolis? Despite his righteous thoughts, William felt utterly exhausted. The mere fact that videos of the UFO were circulating online and being broadcasted on television was enough to incite chaos in the Metropolitan East District.
What would happen when the UFO made its presence known by flying directly over the city?
William couldn't bear to think, as if the impending chaos had pierced through the already shaky foundation of justice.
Rims reacted similarly, his legs trembling uncontrollably, nearly unable to stand: "God, it's over, it's over, God."
What promotion? Why stay? I... I was so foolish; I should have left the metropolis this morning.
He regretted why his sense of justice had to be so strong. Clearly, he could have fled early like Captain Pristo!
Yet inexplicably, he had been affected by William, disturbed by that solitary figure heading towards Cross Street, and had unexpectedly chosen to stay.
Now it was too late; the UFO had arrived, and there was no escape!
The reactions of William and Rims were merely a microcosm of the countless others in Public.
In the entire metropolis, one only needed to look up to see the massive UFO looming overhead.
People could no longer contain the panic rising within them, ready to embark on a series of actions that could only be described as a riot.
Fortunately, at that moment, the strange white light emitted by the UFO began to coalesce into a gigantic human figure.
The figure unmistakably resembled Xu Lie, marking his first appearance in the Script World of Black and White.
