In the afternoon, Xu Lie lay comfortably on the sofa, wearing a headset and immersed in a virtual reality game. It must be said that the company's product, the UFO, offered exceptional value for money. With just two thousand points, one could not only acquire this high-tech spacecraft equipped with Optical Camouflage, allowing it to become invisible in front of others, but also experience cutting-edge technology.
There were sub-cooking simulations, hot spring bedroom recreations, and virtual games with a realism level of ninety percent—all technologies Xu Lie had never encountered before. It wasn't until he heard the communicator beep that he removed the headset and picked up the small device. The communicator was also standard equipment for the UFO, which was originally designed for small teams of ten to conduct space activities. It featured technology that allowed communication across an entire planetary range from the UFO's signal point.
"Anthony, what's going on?" he asked. Anthony had spent the entire day in the office watching Film and Television Dramas and had locked the office door early. With a respectful demeanor, he reported, "The Great Federation has urgently established the Alien Intelligence Agency and concluded their first online meeting."
The summary of the meeting was straightforward: externally, they aimed to investigate the third party involved in smuggling nuclear bombs with all available satellites and aircraft to locate our UFO. Internally, they focused on reassuring the public and maintaining order while trying to restore production as much as possible.
Anthony's report was brief, but the actual meeting lasted over four hours. It was filled with accusations and finger-pointing among participants, with frequent claims of "You're responsible for this," followed by personal disclaimers that added nothing to the discussion. Even watching a three-times-speed playback of the meeting left Anthony feeling overwhelmed.
Yet he had to endure it and ultimately extracted several key pieces of useful information. The meeting made it clear that the sudden emergence of the UFO had caused significant repercussions, even leading to production stagnation in multiple regions of the Great Federation. Many workers on farms and in factories were likely thinking that with aliens flying UFOs right to their doorsteps, what was the point of farming or assembling screws? They might as well go out and celebrate.
Xu Lie wasn't worried about being found by the Great Federation; neither the so-called third party involved in smuggling nuclear bombs nor the UFO itself seemed realistic threats. The two Imitation Humans involved in smuggling Tactical Nuclear Weapons had no backstory and were essentially ghosts from another world. It was impossible to trace any origins, especially since a Tactical Nuclear Weapon had already detonated at the scene, reducing everything to dust.
If there were technology to extract clues from the aftermath of a nuclear explosion, we would have already left our home planet. As for finding UFOs, that seems even less likely; the technological gap is overwhelming. Whether it's satellites or aircraft, it's merely a futile exercise in burning fuel.
Quickly, the communicator beeped twice, indicating that Charles was requesting to join the conference call. Xu Lie readily accepted, and Charles's voice soon came through: "First, Anthony is here too."
On the side of the Serpent, contact was made with the Arms Company, and their behavior was peculiar; they were likely planning to research armed UFOs. The meeting was solely focused on how to locate our UFO and how to develop similar flying devices. There was no discussion about maintaining order; that responsibility was left for the Great Federation to handle.
Those Arms Tycoons probably thought that if the Great Federation could win, they would get a share; if not, then whatever they did would be meaningless. From two of my Imitation Human subordinates, I gathered some insight into the Great Federation's overall plan: why complicate things? Instead of letting them search aimlessly, it would be better for me to take action. It was time for me to make my entrance.
At dusk, the hazy evening glow tinged the sky with shades of twilight. That late-hour ambiance seemed to foreshadow a bleak future for the metropolis's public.
