Curiosity piqued, the little creature kept turning its head, its gaze following the Mini Robot. It spotted a pillar and, at an outrageous ninety-degree angle, ascended faster than a gecko could climb, before disappearing from sight.
Xu Lie waited for news of the Mini Robot disabling the surveillance before confidently stepping out of the elevator and striding towards the front door. Two undercover agents were being led by a nurse at the back door, a sufficient distance from the front, so there were no unexpected encounters. Xu Lie smoothly exited the outpatient department.
Barely two seconds had passed when he was captured on camera by a drone hovering in the air, transmitting to the Special Investigation Team's computer. With facial recognition technology, his identity was confirmed at lightning speed.
Zhang Yutao urgently instructed the last undercover agent stationed at the front door to move in for an arrest and requested everyone to gather at the front. Xu Lie, however, had not noticed the undercover agent; they were skillfully keeping their head down while playing on their phone, not approaching Xu Lie directly. Instead, they moved left and right, and from the aerial perspective of the onlookers, it became clear that the distance between Xu Lie and the undercover agent was closing.
“Wow, this is the last one! If I can dodge this Xu Lie, I can escape successfully!”
“Nan Er has done well; drones flying in the sky can't destroy what Nan Er has released.”
“It just shows that the production team pays attention to detail; a Special Investigation Team of this caliber should be thorough—there shouldn't be any loopholes.”
“It's getting closer! Am I about to be caught?!”
Occasionally glancing at Danmaku's Xu Lie revealed that there was still one last undercover agent left. It seemed that running out first and then pretending to be caught was no longer an option. Rather than being chased down awkwardly by an undercover agent—and possibly getting shot—it would be better to maintain composure and surrender willingly; after all, being captured was the core objective achieved.
However, he couldn't gauge how much this would elevate his personal evaluation. In a brief moment of clarity, Xu Lie turned around to face a burly man who was getting closer while seemingly distracted by his phone: “Stop pretending and don’t make any sudden moves. I’m here to surrender, not to suffer. If I feel uncomfortable at all, I won’t reveal where I’ve hidden the bomb.”
When Xu Lie exposed the undercover agent’s identity with his words, there was no hesitation; the agent lunged forward to restrain Xu Lie and control his arms. But upon hearing Xu Lie’s next statement, he hesitated.
Suddenly cautious, he could only stare intently at Xu Lie while his other hand seemed poised to retrieve something from his pocket.
“Don’t worry,” Xu Lie said slowly as he analyzed his situation for the undercover agent. “I come in good faith and I have a gun in my hand. If I fire a shot at that drone before I step out, you’ll lose your aerial surveillance.”
Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the gunfire, I slipped out with the crowd. At that moment, how could anyone recognize me amidst the turmoil?
The burly man in front of me, as well as Zhang Yutao and others who were listening to the situation through their earpieces, fell into silence.
There was nothing to say. Xu Lie was right; any disturbance would allow him to escape unnoticed. The fact that he chose not to do so showed his sincerity.
The Special Investigation Team had no doubts about Xu Lie's honesty. Many nurses at the back door of the clinic had testified, including the fact that Xu Lie possessed a firearm.
Xu Lie patted his side: "Are you coming to get it yourself, or should I hand it to you?"
The undercover agent hesitated; either choice seemed fraught with risk. Before he could think further, Xu Lie casually pulled out a gun, causing the undercover agent to break into a cold sweat and instinctively draw his own weapon, only to see Xu Lie's firearm flying towards his face in a graceful arc.
As he caught it and took a look, he realized it was identical to his own sidearm!
Xu Lie maintained his confident demeanor: "During the two previous explosions, I didn't harm anyone, and I won't now."
I certainly didn't want to see any chaos escalate into a disastrous stampede.
