On the G315 Fuxinghao train,
With a whistle from the conductor, I joined the throng of passengers and disembarked in Guangzhou, traveling from north to south.
Two years after graduation and three years into my career, my savings still lingered in the four-digit range.
There was no choice but to head south in search of fortune.
As the train slowly started moving, I hadn’t yet figured out my direction when a sudden voice called out to me.
“Hey, brother, could you help me out and put my bag on the overhead rack?”
I followed the sound and saw a man in his thirties waving at me.
I nodded and helped him place his bag up there.
He thanked me and sat down beside me.
I took out my phone, planning to send out a few more job applications during the ride.
“Brother, aren’t you going to let me read your fortune?”
I was puzzled, but the man had already moved to sit across from me.
He wore a ripped T-shirt and thick black-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.
He looked like a modern-day Taoist priest.
Is there really a living immortal on this train?
I didn’t react much.
He didn’t seem to mind and continued chatting with me: “My name is Luo Wen. Have you seen ‘Daoist Descending the Mountain’?”
"I've seen it."
"The one inside, Chen Xing, is my junior brother."
"Oh."
He took a sip of water. "So, how about I read your fortune?"
"No, thanks."
"It's free," he quickly added.
"Well, in that case." I put away my phone.
He examined my face and then looked at the lines on my palm, calculating with his fingers.
"How old are you this year?"
"Twenty-three."
Luo Wen shook his head and began to ramble, "From your features, it looks like this year is going to be tough for you!"
I chuckled. "Then I guess I need your help to turn things around."
"Well... I can do that, but it will cost extra."
I knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.
"How much?"
"998."
"That's ridiculous!"
I stuffed my wallet back into my pocket. "No need for that, I might as well wait for death."
Luo Wen sighed helplessly. "Why are you like this? Fine, fine, I'll take a look for free."
With that, he switched seats to sit across from me and carefully examined my face and palm.
Suddenly, Luo Wen's eyes lit up. "Hey! From what I see, you're going to have a romantic encounter soon!"
I was a bit skeptical. "Really?"
He nodded seriously. "I, Luo Bansian, never speak nonsense."
I couldn't help but ask, "When approximately?"
"Today!" Luo Wen declared confidently. "And this romantic encounter will be unforgettable for a lifetime!"
I rolled my eyes at him. "Can you not say such mystical things?"
"What's wrong? You don't believe me?"
Of course I didn't!
Luo Wen grew anxious. "If you don't believe me, let's make a bet! If no woman approaches you today, I'll admit defeat!"
"And if you lose?" I inquired.
Luo Wen thought for a moment. "If I lose, I'll help you resolve that Peach Blossom Fate!"
"Deal!"
I extended my palm and high-fived Luo Wen.
Suddenly, Luo Wen patted my shoulder and said, "Don't move! The peach blossom is coming!"
I looked up.
Sure enough, a woman in a light blue uniform entered our compartment.
She was tall and curvaceous, wearing only a light blue service dress.
As she quickened her pace, the snowy white curves swayed enticingly.
The upper half of her face was covered by a mask, leaving only her sparkling peach blossom eyes visible.
But that was enough to drive anyone wild!
The men in the compartment cast lecherous glances at her, eager to catch a glimpse of her beauty.
She seemed completely unfazed; as she walked past me, she even glanced my way with a subtle look.
In that instant, our eyes met!
At that moment, I felt a tingling sensation all over my body!
