"I was wondering why the Evil Mage had such a bad reputation, but now it’s clear. He just goes around slaughtering villages; he really deserves to be killed."
"Hahaha, looks like the Evil Mage has finally met his match."
Faced with Xu Lie's mocking question, Mai Zhe could only think of a few curse words. How could he laugh when he was outnumbered four to one?
If only Mai Zhe could see the audience's Danmaku; he would probably engage in a heated exchange across dimensions.
In their Evil Mage stronghold, with all sorts of pre-drawn magic circles for assistance, Mai Zhe might have felt more confident. But now, fighting on enemy territory and facing a larger group, how could he still find anything to laugh about?
"Don't worry," Xu Lie said, wanting to see this tool's full strength. "We won't intervene. As long as you can defeat him..." He pointed at Charles in front of Mai Zhe. "We'll let you go."
Charles nodded gently, indicating that Xu Lie was not lying. He understood Xu Lie's intention: to have him face the Evil Mage in a one-on-one duel for two reasons.
First, it was to assess his own strength or that of Anthony and the two Bionic Persons. Xu Lie had invested a significant amount of money in acquiring a Legendary Mage for the company; in the Burning Fire world, that was basically at the Tian Long Board level.
He and Anthony’s strength was still uncertain, so they needed a willing tool to test it out. Despite the many teachers and students at Truth School, not one was suitable for this role because if Charles were to fight for his life, he would have to go all out.
The teachers and students at Truth School wouldn’t be able to contribute much in this regard. At least when facing non-Evil Mage opponents, due to the nature of Idealism Magic, the teachers' spells would be significantly weakened.
The second reason was that Xu Lie intended for Anthony and Charles to serve as combat instructors at Truth School. Finding an Evil Mage for practice would also help them later teach students how to fight against Evil Mages.
Mai Zhe scoffed at Xu Lie's reasoning, a flicker of anger flashing in his fierce gaze. Did they really think he was a fool? Who didn’t know that everyone wanted to take down an Evil Mage?
Whenever there was an opportunity, the Common Mage would execute a Justice Beatdown, determined to eliminate every Evil Mage. How could he possibly let someone go after winning a one-on-one duel?
Feeling the blood-red crystal on the back of his hands, Mai Zhe began to hesitate, preparing to find a chance to escape. Before he could think further, Charles had already made his move. Without any wands or equipment, he simply waved his hand and unleashed dozens of Firebirds.
Each Firebird was the size of a palm, engulfed in flames, trailing sparks as they soared through the air, rushing toward Mai Zhe in relentless waves. The sheer force of the Firebirds made it feel as though he was surrounded by molten lava.
After seizing the initiative, Charles stood still for a moment before suddenly accelerating into motion. As he weaved and dodged, he conjured a Magic Shield for himself while continuing to cast spells, hurling out dozens of Sharp Wind Blades.
Mai Zhe was no pushover either; he fully focused on maintaining his Magic Shield. At the same time, he danced on his feet in a zigzag pattern, bracing himself against the Firebird attacks while secretly unleashing his signature spell, Silent Fear!
The hallmark of Dark Elemental Magic was its utter silence. Mai Zhe excelled in negative emotional magic within Dark Magic. Silent Fear was his specialty, capable of instantly triggering all the fears buried deep within the hearts of his targets.
