The Hawk Faction and the Dove Faction were locked in a heated debate, while the Centrists remained true to their name. One moment they found the Hawk Faction's arguments convincing, supporting the decision to take down the Alien Life research team; the next moment, they felt the concerns of the Dove Faction were valid, shifting their allegiance once again. Both sides were accustomed to this behavior; it was typical for these fence-sitters, and no one was surprised.
When would the Centrists ever stand firm on one side? That would truly shock everyone.
Just as the Centrists were about to switch back to supporting the Hawk Faction, they received an unbelievable piece of news: the Great Federation's Sherwood District had declared independence. The news left them dizzy, even questioning their own eyesight. After rubbing their eyes several times and confirming the information word by word, they turned off the meeting audio and made a direct call.
Finally, they had to interrupt the meeting: "Gentlemen, I think it's necessary to pause for a moment." The Hawk and Dove factions looked over with irritation. What now? Hadn’t they just agreed not to discuss any trivial matters until a conclusion was reached?
"The Great Federation's Sherwood District has declared independence." Without giving them a chance to question it, the Centrists broke the latest and worst news. The announcement left both the Hawk and Dove factions stunned into silence.
This was unprecedented since the establishment of the Great Federation. While there had been numerous instances in various regions where people had attempted to declare independence over different issues, those had only resulted in protests or petitions; no one had ever truly gone out on their own and declared independence.
This meant that from now on, the Great Federation's Sherwood District would no longer recognize the Great Federation!
It was undoubtedly a slap in the face for every high-ranking official present—painful and loud, with no regard for their feelings. Were they insane?! How dared they?! What did they intend to do? Split from the Great Federation?! They deserved death—execution was a must!
There was no need for further debate; at this point, sending troops to quell the uprising was all that mattered.
This turn of events was sure to delight viewers!
"Wait, are they really independent? This isn't just a joke? Incredible! The writers are bold enough to write this!"
"Oh my God, I truly envy the Great Federation's Sherwood District in this story. We tried organizing protests here in hopes of declaring independence but failed every time."
"I think it's normal. As the stronghold of the Military-Industrial Complex, it makes sense that Sherwood District would choose this path after being captured by other high-ranking officials and receiving promises from Alien Life. Wouldn't returning mean being betrayed again by those same officials?"
The dense barrage of projectiles filled the air, with many of them even connecting end to end, making it impossible to read through them all. For the high-ranking officials of the Great Federation, the real crisis had emerged, leaving no room for hesitation or dispute.
The Hawk Faction and the Dove Faction finally reached a truce. They decided to act swiftly to reclaim the Sherwood District of the Great Federation, lest this example lead other regions astray. This was also an opportunity to thoroughly dismantle the Military-Industrial Complex. In doing so, they aimed to secure the rewards from Alien Life, a decision made by the Dove Faction.
The Hawk Faction agreed because they could first acquire a portion of Alien Technology. Once the Great Federation had researched and assimilated this technology, they would launch a war to capture the Alien Research Team and seize all their advancements. In a show of reciprocity, the Dove Faction ultimately consented to this plan.
It truly echoed the saying: when both sides are embroiled in infighting, they will unite against a third party that threatens them both.
William sat drowsily in a lounge, idly sipping his coffee—this was already his third cup.
