Anthony chuckled, trying to reassure William not to be so tense. "Very good, very good. You and Rims are steadfast in your positions, not fleeing or betraying us. You are the brightest heroes in our bureau."
"I hereby announce the promotion of you, William, as the captain of the Fourth Investigation Team, with Rims serving as your Vice Captain. Furthermore, I need you both to urgently investigate a foreign student named Lie Xu. Currently, our understanding of Alien Life is virtually nonexistent. Everything we know has been given to us by Alien Life itself. We cannot resign ourselves to this fate; we need to take action. If anyone in this world knows the most about Alien Life, it must be that person who accepted the commission—Lie.
Even if he has already been captured by Alien Life, I believe that the resilient Lie will have left behind some clues. So I need you, the heroes of the Investigation Bureau—steadfast and just William and Rims—can I trust you?"
"One would go through fire and water for those who understand and appreciate them," he continued. For William, who had experienced Captain Pristo's sudden desertion and seen his colleagues leave one after another, Director Anthony's heavy trust felt incredibly warm. It was not just himself and Rims who stood firm for justice; their superior, Anthony, was with them too!
Captain Pristo's escape meant little; as long as Director Anthony remained, justice would endure! Moreover, they were investigating Lie Xu, whom William held in the highest regard.
Indeed, regard. In the alien footage, when faced with a choice between personal gain and humanity's fate, Lie Xu chose the latter. William viewed him as a pillar of strength. He believed he had been inspired by Lie Xu and inherited that spirit of resistance, vowing to fight against Alien Life.
With such thoughts fueling him, William felt even more passionate; his emotions boiled over like oil in a hot pan as he shouted, "Please believe in us, Director Anthony! Assign this mission to us! We won’t let hero Lie down or let you down either! Rims and I will carry on Lie’s spirit; no matter how desperate things get, we will stand with humanity!"
"We will investigate at lightning speed to uncover any traces Lie may have left behind and gather any possible intelligence!"
On the other end of the line, Anthony raised an eyebrow with a peculiar expression. It seemed he didn’t really need to employ his rhetorical skills; William had already convinced himself quite thoroughly!
He wouldn't let Xu Lie down, nor would he let Anthony down. Would he also inherit Xu Lie's spirit, resolutely determined to fight against Alien Life? Do you even know who the real aliens are?
Anthony felt a bit awkward, his facial nerves completely controlled by the cerebral chip, ensuring that if he didn't want to laugh, he absolutely wouldn't. Yet, the intellectual plug inside his head emitted a high temperature that made him want to laugh.
This made Anthony, the Bionic Person, truly experience the miraculous sensation of wanting to laugh but having to hold it in. He cleared his throat and maintained a calm tone, trying his best not to laugh out loud. "Alright! Truly worthy of being our Investigation Bureau's hero! The mission is entrusted to you all. I will send you the previous residence address that the bureau has found."
After saying those last words, Anthony hurriedly hung up the phone. He had to; he was genuinely worried he might burst out laughing.
Is this humanity? It's truly amazing. Even someone like me, composed of cold components and unfeeling programs, can be amused and experience such emotions. How wonderful!
