In Yuan City, at Pearl Manor, just moments ago they had been drinking and feasting, reveling in the joy of the moment. Now, however, the ground was littered with the injured. Aside from Song Qiao and his companions, as well as Chen Tao, not a single person was left standing.
For them, it had only been a matter of minutes, but for the spectators outside, an entire week had passed.
"Front row, first!"
"I'm here for the Third Arc! The writer is really something; leaving us hanging at such a crucial moment."
"I wasn't particularly interested in martial arts dramas before, but this one seems different. The protagonist is sent to suppress an old master; it's quite novel. I've never seen such a targeted approach against the protagonist's antagonist before—I'm here to catch up!"
Those within the Script World could not see the Danmaku. Chen Tao still wanted to resist, but his body felt heavy and unresponsive. His once vigorous Internal Energy now flowed sluggishly due to internal injuries, making it difficult to mobilize. Just managing to heal slowly on his own felt like a miraculous feat.
"Don't waste your effort." Song Qiao gently raised his hand and pressed it on Chen Tao's shoulder, pinning him down. "In the martial world, there are few like you who experience sudden fortune and rise to prominence so quickly; such individuals are rare."
"You are not unique."
Suddenly gaining power that was not cultivated through personal effort made it challenging to mobilize his Zhen Qi. Without any skills to speak of, how could he possibly be a match for the Old Man?
Chen Tao felt a chill inside as he realized that this old man had seen right through him. What should he do? He needed to think of a way out!
Unintentionally, Chen Tao glanced at the members of Yuan City, Pearl Manor sprawled across the ground. He didn't know when it had happened, but they had been defeated by A Gang and were now lying down instead of merely being repelled.
This scene caused a wave of warmth to rise within Chen Tao’s heart; Wei Zhuangzhu was a good person, and with several of his disciples around, they should not have to suffer any longer. It was only because of him that Yuan City, Pearl Manor faced this calamity.
Chen Tao lowered his voice and gave up struggling. "I'll go with you, but you must not harm Wei Zhuangzhu or his people any further. Otherwise, if I recover even a little bit of strength, I will fight you to the end."
Song Qiao's expression turned strange at these words; his cheek twitched slightly.
A Gang was clearly taken aback and bellowed in disbelief, "What nonsense are you spouting? We're here on orders from His Highness; we’re not here to tarnish His Highness's reputation! How could we kill people indiscriminately?"
These unfortunate souls had simply gotten in their way while they were carrying out their duties; giving them a beating was enough—why would they need to kill them?
Chen Tao awkwardly blinked, unable to utter a single word, feeling as if he were the monkey being juggled in the center of a crowd during his first visit to Yuan City.
"Ha! This is hilarious. Even in such a critical moment, the protagonist stands up for others, sacrificing himself. Why does it get funnier the more I watch?"
"Impressive! This strong man seems like a brute, but he actually makes a lot of sense."
"Perhaps he's not as foolish as he appears. That previous incident with the iron bridge left a deep impression on me. Besides, they have no need to slaughter the village; it would only tarnish the prince's reputation."
"Then why was the Bai Yu Men wiped out? They even used crossbows!"
Everyone present couldn't see the Danmaku and were unaware that Wei Zhuangzhu had lightly closed his eyes, pretending to be unconscious, secretly relieved that this group still retained some rationality. They had no intention of completely eliminating their enemies.
In the martial world, face was indeed important. Wei Zhuangzhu had done his best and felt no guilt. Losing was one thing; backing down was another. Regardless of victory or defeat, as long as he took his disciples and acted against the prince, his face would be preserved—at least he hadn’t lost it.
Chen Tao remained silent in embarrassment while Song Qiao surveyed the scene and waved his hand, only taking Chen Tao with him. The elder handled matters seriously; for humor, one had to look to A Gang.
