Wei Zhuang was completely bewildered, utterly at a loss. No matter how angry he had been earlier, at this moment he resembled a drenched crow, his expression as disheveled as could be.
Recently, rumors had been circulating in the martial world that the Second Prince was beginning to recruit a large number of martial artists to serve him. Wei Zhuang had always dismissed such rumors, thinking it absurd for a royal prince to seek out martial artists. What could he possibly want from them?
However, seeing Chen Tao's excited demeanor made Wei Zhuang realize that perhaps these rumors were not mere fabrications after all; there might be some truth to them. This situation was becoming increasingly difficult for him to comprehend.
Song Qiao was also somewhat confused by Chen Tao's inquiries. Xu Lie had only informed him that Chen Tao came from Yu Men, but what had happened with Yu Men? How was he supposed to know?
The Old Man was unclear about what had transpired with Yu Men; he only knew one thing: the prince needed Chen Tao's skills, and they should come along without further ado. The prince would not treat them poorly.
The audience was taken aback by the unfolding drama.
"Does the Second Prince value Chen Tao's Cang Hai Jue? Is he some sort of fortune teller? Or does he have x-ray vision? How could he possibly know that Chen Tao possesses Cang Hai Jue?"
"It’s possible he heard about it. Didn’t Chen Tao use Cang Hai Jue to rescue Wei Zhuang’s daughter? The underwater capabilities of Cang Hai Jue are quite obvious; that must be how he deduced it."
"With just this little clue, the Second Prince can infer about Cang Hai Jue? Wow, this Second Prince is something else."
Chen Tao was equally perplexed as to why the Second Prince would know about Cang Hai Jue when he hadn’t told anyone. But never mind that; it wasn’t important. In Chen Tao’s simple mind, uncovering the truth about Yu Men was the priority: how could they not understand?
That night, Elder Li had seen the crossbow and shouted that those who did not submit to the Second Prince would be exterminated. He remembered it clearly; how could it possibly not be related to them?!
On the surface, Song Qiao appeared calm, as if indifferent to such trivial matters, but inwardly he was cursing those responsible for Yu Men’s affairs thoroughly. How could he have known about this? All he knew was that the prince had previously sent people out to recruit martial artists everywhere. Including himself and the A Gang by his side, they were all recruited by the prince.
He had never heard of a massacre involving crossbows; how could these people fail so miserably in carrying out the prince's orders? They had stirred up such a huge commotion! Had they not finished off all their targets? What a mess!
What were they still doing standing around? They needed to send this Shao Xia back. Song Qiao couldn’t be bothered to linger on this any longer; first, he would complete the prince’s orders and then discuss other matters later.
"Enough is enough!" Wei Zhuang and several of his disciples stood in front of Song Qiao and the others. "Even if he is the Second Prince of the Heavenly Family, this is going too far!"
"Chen Shaoxia is the benefactor of my daughter. If this were an invitation from the Second Prince, I wouldn't stand in the way," Wei Zhuang continued. "But according to Chen Shaoxia, this matter is not simple. You cannot forcefully take him away."
The situation was complicated, and Wei Zhuang could no longer afford to hesitate. To be honest, he had no desire to provoke the Second Prince; doing so could lead to endless trouble.
Some matters, in Wei Zhuang's eyes, were more important than anything else—such as his reputation. In the world of martial arts, reputation was paramount; sometimes, reputation and face were synonymous.
If word got out that he, Wei Zhuang, allowed his daughter's savior to be taken away without a fight, what kind of reputation would he have left? How would his peers view him?
Not to mention, there were countless debts owed to those who provided food and shelter for wandering martial artists. If he backed down now, all his investments would go down the drain.
Just thinking about it made Wei Zhuang's heart ache. Rather than suffer ridicule and scorn from countless peers, it was better to stand up and fight.
