The cavalry behind surged forward like a tempest, sweeping towards Luofeng Mountain. The sound of hooves thundered like rolling thunder, raising clouds of dust that thickened the already dim night, making it nearly impossible to see. Yet, the iron riders led by Lin Feng showed no fear; they charged ahead, resolute and unwavering in their mission.
Thus began a heart-pounding battle for supplies. The dust kicked up by the galloping horses trailed behind them like a long golden dragon rampaging across the fields. As they drew closer to Luofeng Mountain, the surrounding landscape grew increasingly desolate—villages lay in ruins, and farmlands were abandoned. It was evident that the Mountain Bandits had long wreaked havoc in this area.
Approaching the foot of the mountain, Lin Feng reined in his horse, which neighed loudly and raised its front hooves. He gazed up at the mist-shrouded Luofeng Mountain, its steep slopes and dense forests presenting a formidable stronghold for bandits.
His deputy approached with a worried expression. "Your Highness, those Pao Ma Zhai rascals are hiding in their lair. If we charge into the mountains, we might fall into their ambush."
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow and replied coldly, "Should we just let them roam free while watching the common people starve?" Every moment wasted increased the danger to the western County. "Send a few clever scouts into the mountains to assess the situation while the rest of you stay put and do not act recklessly."
The scouts moved stealthily through the woods as time dragged on, each moment of waiting feeling like an eternity. Finally, one scout returned in haste, reporting: "Your Highness, the Pao Ma Zhai bandits are celebrating in their lair. Their food supplies are piled in the eastern storeroom, and their defenses are not very strict; they must be confident we wouldn't dare attack so soon."
A glint of determination flashed in Lin Feng's eyes as he immediately ordered: "Split into three groups. One will feign an attack from the front to draw their attention; another will quietly circle around to cut off their escape route; I will personally lead the third group straight into their lair to reclaim our supplies!"
With orders given, the soldiers quickly regrouped and silently set off along their designated paths. The feigned attack team was soon engaged with the Mountain Bandits' sentries, and cries of battle echoed through the valley.
The bandits at Heifeng Stronghold were jolted from their revelry and scrambled to grab their weapons as they rushed towards the gate. Arrows rained down like a storm, and flames shot up into the sky.
Meanwhile, the team approaching from the back mountain was not idle either; they swiftly dealt with several isolated bandits and successfully occupied a crucial pass. Lin Feng led his elite troops like shadows through the forest, closing in on the storeroom.
However, just as they were mere dozens of steps away from their target, a group of Mountain Bandits suddenly emerged from all sides, surrounding them completely.
At the forefront stood a burly man with a face full of scars, brandishing his weapon as he laughed uproariously, "You really dare to come here? Today, you won't leave with this grain; your life will be forfeit!"
Lin Feng showed no fear, standing tall with his spear and declaring loudly, "You band of villains, preying on the common people and robbing my life-saving provisions. I, the Prince, have come today to take your lives and restore peace to the people!"
With that, Lin Feng drew his trusty Pei Jian and charged into the enemy ranks. The soldiers behind him shouted in unison, following closely as they engaged in a fierce battle with the Mountain Bandits. The deadly struggle over the grain escalated into a white-hot conflict in an instant.
