The next morning, Lu An rode a magnificent horse, the sound of its hooves echoing along the road to the Mardu Tribe. Before long, he arrived once again at the Mardu Tribe.
At that moment, a subordinate hurried into the large tent where Mardu was seated in a tiger-skin chair. He reported, "Chief, Lord Lu An has arrived!"
Hearing this, Mardu looked up, his gaze directed toward the entrance. He nodded slightly and said in a deep voice, "Let him in."
With an acknowledgment, Lu An stepped steadily into the tent. He was dressed in a long blue robe, with a black belt cinched at his waist, standing tall and straight like a pine tree.
Upon entering the tent, he first bowed respectfully to Mardu before speaking, "I wonder how the chief has reflected on yesterday's considerations after a night of thought?"
Mardu paused briefly, seemingly weighing his words. After a moment, he slowly replied, "I am inclined to submit; however, I have a small request before that."
Lu An smiled and responded, "Please feel free to speak, Chief."
Taking a deep breath, Mardu stated earnestly, "If our tribe is to join Wu Kingdom, we must have formal recognition as citizens of Wu Kingdom and be granted the same status as ordinary citizens. Only then can we feel secure in our allegiance."
Without hesitation, Lu An nodded in agreement. "That is only right. Since you have decided to join my country, you will be subjects of Wu Kingdom. The court will treat you fairly without any favoritism or discrimination."
Hearing this, satisfaction spread across Mardu's face as he continued, "That is excellent! From this moment on, all members of the Mardu Tribe shall be citizens of Wu Kingdom. We are willing to offer all our accumulated wealth to the state as a token of our sincerity and commitment."
A glimmer of surprise flashed in Lu An's eyes as he quickly clasped his hands together in gratitude. "Thank you for your generous contribution, Chief! I will return to my army immediately and report this to my general. I believe he will be very pleased upon hearing this news." With that, he turned and swiftly left the tent, preparing to embark on his journey.
After Lu An exited the tent, Mardu announced to all the tribesmen that from now on they were citizens of Wu Kingdom and would no longer have to endure the harsh winds and cold winters of the grasslands.
In Lin Feng's camp, tents stood tall and military flags waved proudly. At that moment, Lu An hurriedly entered the main tent where Lin Feng was seated at the head of the table.
Lin Feng listened intently as Lu An recounted the details of persuading the Mardu Tribe to surrender. After Lu An finished speaking, Lin Feng fell into a brief contemplation. As time ticked by, he weighed the considerations of accepting their surrender while also feeling a twinge of concern.
Suddenly, a spark lit up in Lin Feng's eyes as if he had thought of a brilliant plan. He lightly tapped on the table and said, "In that case, arrange for them all to relocate immediately to Tongguan."
This decision seemed simple, yet it held profound significance. Initially, Lin Feng had indeed anticipated this layer of complexity.
