The next morning, as the sun rose, Liang Yan and Liang Siqi packed their belongings and set out with their entourage towards the Liang Kingdom. This journey was of great importance, as it concerned the life and death of their nation, and they needed to inform their father, the Emperor, as soon as possible.
With that in mind, they rode swiftly, the sound of hooves echoing as dust rose behind them. They galloped on without pause, time slipping away quietly.
On the fourth day, Liang Yan's group arrived at the border of the Wu Kingdom. Looking at the towering mountains ahead, Liang Yan said, "The road ahead is difficult. Let’s rest here for the night and continue our journey tomorrow." This place was Taiyin Mountain, located at the intersection of the two kingdoms. Although it was a challenging route, it was also the closest path back to their homeland.
As Liang Yan noticed that dusk was approaching, he instructed his subordinates to quickly set up tents for the night. Soon enough, the tents were ready. Just as Liang Yan was about to enter one, a sudden rain of arrows descended upon them.
Liang Yan was taken aback and shouted, "There are assassins! You all protect the princess; the rest follow me!" The attendants drew their swords, ready for battle.
Suddenly, a group of Black-Clad Masked Men burst forth from the trees, each wielding a blade. "Who are you to dare attack this prince?" Liang Yan bellowed in anger.
The leader said nothing but merely sneered. Thus began an intense battle, with swords clashing and cries of combat filling the air.
Relying on his exceptional martial arts skills and remarkable courage, Liang Yan charged into the fray, fighting fiercely. However, as time passed, he began to feel overwhelmed; his strength gradually waned.
At this critical moment, a sudden sound of urgent hoofbeats echoed from afar.
Everyone turned to look, and they saw a well-equipped cavalry unit charging forward with great momentum. As they drew closer, it became clear that these individuals were clad in the military uniforms of the Wu Kingdom.
It turned out that when Liang Yan and his companions arrived at Jialing Pass the day before, the local County Magistrate had personally come to greet them and had extended a warm hospitality. However, due to excessive drinking the previous day, he had forgotten about this matter until now.
He recalled that this area often experienced attacks on passing merchant caravans, which filled him with concern. Considering the safety of Liang Yan and his group, as well as maintaining local law and order, the County Magistrate had dispatched a garrison unit to their aid.
At this moment, those black-clad assailants who had originally surrounded Liang Yan sensed that the situation was turning against them and began to scatter in all directions.
Seeing this, Liang Yan felt an overwhelming joy. He took a deep breath and swiftly moved to intercept those attempting to flee. "Trying to escape? Not so easily!" he shouted angrily, his sword flashing in a flurry of strikes.
He knew he had to capture these individuals to uncover who had sent them to assassinate him. However, what he did not anticipate was that these men were all determined fighters willing to die for their cause.
Liang Yan decided to stop pursuing the black-clad figures and instead looked for Liang Siqi, concerned for her well-being. "Sister, are you alright?" he asked.
Although the earlier scene had been quite bloody, Liang Siqi did not seem overly frightened. After all, she was of royal blood; her composure was remarkable.
