At that moment, four more dragons arrived, their riders spreading out to encircle Lin Yu and Old Mo. One of the riders, a woman with long red hair cascading from beneath her helmet, sneered, "Do you two think you can escape so easily? This is the territory of the Dragon Alliance, and no one is allowed to trespass without permission."
Old Mo narrowed his eyes and replied, "We have no intention of intruding; we just want to pass through and avoid those Hunters."
The Red-Haired Rider laughed mockingly, "Hunters? They are our allies. Since the Hunters want to capture you, we won't stand by idly. By the way, how did the Phantom Spirit Fox end up with you? Hand it over, and we might let you go."
Lin Yu asked, "Why do you want the Phantom Spirit Fox?"
The woman shrugged. "It possesses pure Illusion Domain Energy, which we need."
As they spoke, the Phantom Spirit Fox let out a low growl. It seemed to understand their conversation and was unwilling to be handed over. Lin Yu stepped forward protectively in front of the fox. "We won't let you take it. The Phantom Spirit Fox has its own will."
The previously silent Black Dragon Knight spoke in a deep voice, "Then don’t blame us for being rude. Attack!"
With that command, the dragons and riders charged forward. Lin Yu and Old Mo braced themselves. Lin Yu focused his energy, releasing waves of power to repel the incoming dragons. Old Mo used magic to create more obstacles, summoning massive stones from the ground to block the charging dragons.
In the chaos, Lin Yu noticed a strange symbol on one of the Dragon Knights' armor. It was a crescent moon with a star in the center—an image he had seen in a dream before. Distracted for a moment, a dragon's claw slashed across his arm, leaving a deep wound.
"Lin Yu!" Old Mo shouted anxiously.
Lin Yu gritted his teeth, enduring the pain. He concentrated even harder when suddenly a new surge of energy erupted from his mark. It was a warm golden energy that spread outwards. The dragons seemed affected by this energy; they hesitated and their movements slowed.
The Dragon Knights were equally surprised. The Red-Haired Rider shouted, "What kind of sorcery is this?"
Old Mo was astonished as well but a glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes. "Lin Yu, your mark's power is growing stronger. Keep going!"
Lin Yu pushed this energy with all his might. The golden light became increasingly brilliant, causing the dragons to retreat. The Dragon Knights realized they were at a disadvantage; exchanging glances among themselves, they finally shot Lin Yu a fierce glare before turning their dragons around and flying away.
Exhausted, Lin Yu collapsed onto the ground. The Phantom Spirit Fox immediately ran to his side, using its healing energy to mend his wounds. Lin Yu quickly regained some strength.
Old Mo walked over slowly, his face filled with admiration and astonishment. "Lin Yu, you've truly impressed me. The power of your mark is increasing rapidly... The Dragon Knights might go fetch reinforcements. We should hurry to the Neutral City! There we might find allies."
Lin Yu nodded and followed Old Mo towards the city, while the Phantom Spirit Fox quietly settled back on his shoulder. As they drew closer, the full view of the city gradually unfolded before them.
It was an astonishing city. Towering walls made of glowing white stone were intricately carved with complex runes that shimmered faintly in the sunlight. The gates stood wide open as various creatures came and went. Lin Yu saw winged humanoids, scaled beings covered in armor-like skin, and even floating orbs of light.
"This city is called Starshine City," Old Mo explained. "It's one of the largest neutral cities in the Phantom Realm and a crossroads for various factions."
As they entered through the gates, Lin Yu was awestruck by what lay before him. The streets were wide and clean, lined with buildings of diverse styles—some appeared carved from crystal while others were woven entirely from vines. Glowing lanterns floated in the air, casting soft light even in broad daylight.
The streets bustled with activity as various peculiar shops lined them. Lin Yu noticed one shop with a talking sign that was enticing customers with its melodious voice; another shop displayed magical items that danced on their own in its window.
"Don't look around too much," Old Mo whispered, "It's not a good idea to act like a novice here."
Lin Yu thought to himself: As an outsider, who wouldn't see that I'm a novice? Fortunately, after entering the city, the Phantom Spirit Fox had jumped down from his shoulder and was now following him on the ground. Otherwise, he would attract even more attention.
However, Lin Yu still withdrew his gaze, though he couldn't help but sneak a glance at a few elegantly dressed individuals passing by. They wore masks, and their robes were embroidered with intricate constellations.
"Those are members of the Astrologers' Association," Old Mo explained. "They are skilled in prophecy and divination, but it's best not to engage with them too much."
At that moment, Lin Yu felt someone watching him. He turned his head and spotted a figure in a black cloak standing at the street corner. The person wore a hood that obscured their face, but Lin Yu could sense their gaze fixated on the mark on his wrist.
"Ignore him," Old Mo urged as he pulled Lin Yu away quickly. "That's someone from the Shadow Council. They specialize in gathering various intelligence and selling it to the highest bidder."
Following Old Mo, Lin Yu turned into a narrow alley filled with small stalls. The air was thick with various strange scents—some sweet, some pungent, and others indescribable.
"We need some supplies," Old Mo said, "and let's gather some information while we're at it."
They stopped in front of one stall. The vendor was a short creature with deep green skin, pointed ears, and glowing eyes. The stall was filled with an assortment of bottles and jars containing liquids and powders of various colors.
"Ah, Old Mo," the vendor greeted in a raspy voice, "long time no see. This is..." His gaze fell on Lin Yu, particularly on the mark on his wrist.
"A new friend," Old Mo replied briefly. "We need some basic energy supplements and..." He lowered his voice to mention several terms that Lin Yu couldn't understand.
The vendor nodded and began rummaging through the array of bottles and jars. Seizing the opportunity to observe his surroundings, Lin Yu suddenly noticed a peculiar item in the corner of the stall. It was a palm-sized Metal Disc engraved with intricate patterns and embedded with a glowing gemstone at its center.
"What is this?" Lin Yu couldn't help but ask.
Both the vendor and Old Mo turned their heads toward the disc simultaneously. The vendor's expression shifted to one of caution while Old Mo furrowed his brow.
"That is..." the vendor began to speak when suddenly a commotion erupted from the other end of the street.
