"Three hats, then. By the time you finish browsing and come back here, I’ll have made the changes. Just pay me then."
Li Yunqing observed the Seller, who seemed like a straightforward and honest person. It was surprising that he would make the changes without receiving payment first; didn’t he worry they might not return?
Not thinking too much about it, Li Yunqing pulled Sera and Lilu Lu along to continue their exploration. There were plenty of items to see here. Sera led Lilu Lu from one stall to another, their laughter ringing out like silver bells, drawing the attention of passersby.
After a while, they had bought only a few wooden carvings and some mechanical toys. They decided it was time to head back, retracing their steps toward the shop of Mai Dou Li. Although it was still a bit of a distance away, the three were in no hurry and strolled leisurely.
On the way back, the two girls quieted down, linking arms with Li Yunqing. The items they had purchased were already stored in the Royal Ring.
Before long, they arrived at Mai Dou Li's shop. The Seller greeted them as they approached and handed over three hats made of gauze.
"Here you go. I made the adjustments as you requested. Let’s see how they fit."
Sera and Lilu Lu took the hats and put them on while Li Yunqing examined them. He could see the shape of their heads inside but couldn’t make out their faces clearly. This wasn’t quite the style he had envisioned, but given the limitations of the gauze material, it was acceptable.
"Let’s go with this. Here’s your payment."
The Seller happily accepted the money and tucked it into his bag.
Once Li Yunqing saw that the payment had been received, he led Sera and Lilu Lu outside. As soon as they stepped out, he instructed them to remove their hats.
The hats were too large; if they walked arm in arm like this, they would bump into him.
"We’ve been out all morning; let’s head back. I still need to cook for Lin Lang Master."
The three of them walked towards home. Once they arrived, they set the dishes out and waited for Taki and the others to return.
As they began to eat, Taki Sakonji looked at Li Yunqing. "Li Yunqing, I also submitted your name along with mine."
Li Yunqing, who was watching Sera and Lilu Lu eat, felt a bit puzzled upon hearing Taki's words. "What?"
"You and Selalu Lulu will be going to the Final Trial together," Taki Sakonji said.
Li Yunqing thought for a moment and nodded. Seeing this, Taki Sakonji turned to Sera and Lilu Lu. "You both are excellent Killer Demon Swordsmen; the Final Trial shouldn't pose a challenge for you. However, I don’t know why none of the Demon Swordsmen I trained in previous years passed— they all failed."
"Having Li Yunqing join you will provide some extra assurance."
Sera and Lilu Lu nodded in response to Taki Sakonji's words.
Taki Sakonji then glanced at Tanjirou, who was watching Sera and Lilu Lu with envy, and patted his head. "You have a bit of talent too, but it will take about a year before you might meet my standards."
"Ah? A year? That's so long!" Tanjirou looked at his master in disbelief.
Taki Sakonji nodded. "Your senior sisters are all geniuses; you only have a little talent. Don't think too much about it."
Feeling somewhat disheartened, Tanjirou quickly turned his sadness into appetite and devoured several large bowls of food. Taki Sakonji watched as Tanjirou ate voraciously, letting out a barely noticeable sigh.
Once Li Yunqing and the others pass the Final Trial, I will seriously impart my knowledge to you. Sera and Lilu Lu have already reached the Pillar level, and he has reported this, even mentioning Li Yunqing. Therefore, he is completely unconcerned about whether they can pass the Final Trial.
As for Tanjirou, his progress is slow; sometimes he struggles to keep up, making him quite ordinary. The previous few generations of students were similar; none of them passed the Final Trial. For one or two generations, it could be said that they were careless and met their demise. However, with multiple generations, Taki Sakonji began to doubt whether his teaching abilities had declined.
Nonetheless, the number of people passing from the Demon Slayer Corps seems to be quite fixed, and no one knows why.
