“Lao San, come take a look at this!” 0

The voice of my daughter-in-law, Xu Sanniang, echoed in my ears, laced with unease. 0

I crouched in front of the tree hollow, my hands carefully cradling a red cloth bundle. 0

I was puzzled, turning the situation over in my mind: 0

Where on earth did this come from? 0

What a coincidence that we stumbled upon it! 0

I gently unwrapped the red cloth, revealing a delicate little girl, her features finely sculpted. Around her neck hung a crescent-shaped pendant that emitted a faint, ethereal glow. 0

“Sanniang, look at this poor child,” I said. 0

Turning to my daughter-in-law, I saw the same expression of pity reflected on her face. 0

With a resigned sigh, I slowly said, “Well, we’ve been without children for so long; why don’t we take her home and raise her?” 0

Sanniang hesitated for a moment before softly asking, “Lao San, our family is barely making ends meet. Can we really afford to take care of this child?” 0

I reached out and gently touched the baby’s soft cheek, already resolute in my decision: 0

“She’ll eat just a few bowls of rice; we’ll make sure she has enough. No matter how tough life gets, we can manage.” 0

“Lao San, the villagers are gossiping behind our backs,” Xu Sanniang whispered to me as she busily gathered firewood. 0

Her brow was tightly knitted, and her face was filled with unease, clearly troubled by the situation. 0

“What are they saying?” I feigned indifference, but inside, I was fully aware of the rumors swirling around us. 0

Ever since we brought Yue Ya home, the village had been rife with chatter. Some claimed the child was a spirit from the mountains, while others seriously suggested that we had taken something we shouldn’t have and would eventually face consequences. 0

“They’re spreading rumors that this child’s origins are mysterious and urging us to return her to the mountains,” Xu Sanniang said in a hushed tone, as if afraid someone might overhear. “Lao San, maybe we should…” 0

I quickly interrupted her. 0

“Three Niang, we can’t listen to their baseless nonsense. 0

Yue Ya is a living being; how can we just stand by and ignore her?” 0

I looked down at Yue Ya, who was sleeping soundly in my arms. Her rosy little face was incredibly adorable, and anyone who saw her would feel a surge of affection, making my heart soften even more. 0

Xu Sanniang sighed helplessly and chose not to continue the conversation. 0

As the days passed, Yue Ya gradually grew up, blossoming into a clever and sensible little girl. 0

Strangely enough, ever since Yue Ya came to our home, our lives seemed to become increasingly smooth. 0

It was not uncommon to find dazed wild rabbits and pheasants at our doorstep, as if the heavens were favoring us. 0

Moreover, both my daughter-in-law and I became healthier day by day. Our originally gray hair had darkened significantly, making us look several years younger. 0

"Lao San, what do you think is going on?" 0

My daughter-in-law gazed at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes filled with surprise as she couldn't help but ask. 0

I smiled and replied, "Perhaps it's the blessing that Yue Ya has brought us." 0

As I spoke, I reached out to pat Yue Ya's head. She giggled, her laughter ringing like silver bells, revealing two adorable little tiger teeth. 0

Life continued at a leisurely pace. Although we still faced hardships, our hearts felt particularly at ease. 0

However, no one could have anticipated that this hard-won tranquility would soon be shattered. 0
