I followed Chen Mo down the quiet street, the dim streetlights casting long shadows of our figures. 0

The night breeze swept by, bringing a hint of chill that made me tighten my coat around me. 0

The edges of the coat flapped in the wind, resembling a large black bird eager to take flight, accentuating the stillness of the night and making it feel even more expansive. 0

Chen Mo suddenly stopped, turning to look at me. 0

The light from the streetlamp cast mottled shadows on her face, deepening the mystery in her already profound gaze. 0

"Lin Xia, I know you have many questions," she said, her tone low, almost as if she were speaking to herself. 0

I nodded, my throat feeling a bit dry. 0

"Yes, what exactly happened in that old house?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly with tension. 0

Chen Mo sighed, a flicker of helplessness and compassion crossing her eyes. 0

"What happened in that old house is more complicated than you can imagine," she paused, seemingly gathering her thoughts, "far more complicated." 0

She hesitated again, as if contemplating something before slowly continuing, "Do you know Jiang Yao?" 0

At the mention of that name, my heart jolted. 0

Jiang Yao was the one who wandered in the old house, the woman dressed in Republic of China attire with a pale complexion. 0

I nodded again. "I know her; she is the woman from the Republic of China." 0

"She is not just a woman from the Republic of China," Chen Mo corrected me. "She was also the former owner of this old house; her life was filled with tragedy." 0

Chen Mo's voice was deep and slow, as if recounting an ancient and heartbreaking tale. 0

I listened quietly, afraid to interrupt her, fearing I might miss a single word. 0

"Jiang Yao was born into a wealthy family and received a good education from a young age," Chen Mo's voice carried a hint of regret. "She was exceptionally talented, skilled in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. She was a renowned beauty, the dream partner of many." 0

At this point, I couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for Jiang Yao and became even more curious about her subsequent fate. 0

"However," Chen Mo's tone shifted, heavy with emotion, "Jiang Yao's destiny was fraught with difficulties; she fell in love with someone she shouldn't have." 0

My curiosity was fully piqued. "Someone she shouldn't have loved? Who was it?" I asked eagerly. 0

"A warlord," Chen Mo replied coldly. "A ruthless man who committed countless atrocities." 0

My heart sank; I never expected Jiang Yao's fate to be so tragic, falling for such a man. 0

"To win Jiang Yao over, that warlord spared no effort," Chen Mo continued, anger seeping into her voice. "He used threats and temptations, employing both soft and hard tactics. In the end, Jiang Yao was forced to marry him." 0

I felt a wave of sorrow wash over me. Jiang Yao's fate was truly lamentable; such a talented woman reduced to such circumstances. 0

"After the marriage, Jiang Yao's life was far from happy," Chen Mo went on, her tone filled with sympathy. "The warlord treated her poorly, often abusing her and imprisoning her in that old mansion, cutting off all her connections to the outside world." 0

My heart ached for Jiang Yao; such a beautiful woman subjected to such torment. 0

"Ultimately," Chen Mo's voice nearly broke, "Jiang Yao could no longer endure it and chose to take her own life right there in that old mansion. She ended her young life." 0

I shuddered at the thought of Jiang Yao's tragic end; in that eerie old house, she had left this world all alone. 0

Chen Mo looked at me, her gaze serious. "Lin Xia, Jiang Yao's death was not just a simple suicide; it hides a huge secret." 0

My breath quickened. "What secret?" I asked impatiently. 0

"Jiang Yao's death is related to the curse of the old house," Chen Mo said, each word deliberate and heavy. 0

Hearing the word "curse," a chill ran down my spine, creeping from my feet to the top of my head. 0

"A curse? What kind of curse?" I asked nervously. 0

"This old house has been cursed," Chen Mo's voice was low and eerie. "Everyone who lives here will encounter misfortune." 0

A shiver ran down my back as an inexplicable fear enveloped me. 0

"What should I do?" I asked, trembling. 0

Chen Mo looked at me, a glimmer of determination in his eyes. "Lin Xia, you don't need to be afraid. I will protect you." 0

I gazed at Chen Mo, filled with gratitude. In this strange and terrifying environment, his words offered me a sliver of comfort. 0

"Lin Xia," Chen Mo continued, "you possess a special ability that can help you break the curse of the old house." 0

My heart skipped a beat. "What ability?" I asked in confusion. 0

Chen Mo took a deep breath and slowly said, "You can communicate with the spirit world." 0

I was taken aback; I had never known I had such an ability. It was simply unbelievable. 0

Chen Mo looked at me, his tone firm. "But it's true. You can communicate with the spirit world. You can help Jiang Yao find peace and also unravel the curse of this old house." 0

Doubt filled my mind; I had never considered that I would be involved in anything supernatural. 0

Chen Mo softened his tone as he looked at me. "I know you have many questions, but now is not the time to explain everything. When the moment is right, I will tell you everything." 0

I nodded, "I understand." 0

Chen Mo smiled, "Alright, it's getting late. You should head back and rest." 0

I looked at Chen Mo, my heart filled with gratitude. "Thank you." 0

Chen Mo turned to leave, her figure gradually fading into the night. 0

I stood there, watching her silhouette, filled with confusion and anticipation. 0

I had a vague feeling that my fate would undergo a tremendous change because of tonight's encounter. 0

I looked up at the night sky, where countless stars twinkled with mysterious light, as if guiding me on my path. 0

Taking a deep breath, I turned and walked towards home. 0

My steps felt much lighter, my heart brimming with hope. I believed that I would be able to unravel the curse of the old house and help Jiang Yao find freedom. 0

Suddenly, I felt something in my hand. Looking down, I saw an ancient key emitting a faint golden glow. 0

Could this be what Chen Mo referred to as my Golden Finger, the means to communicate with the spirit world? 0
