On that day, Lin Mo was, as usual, carefully examining a piece of rubbings. Suddenly, a sharp heat surged in his forehead, accompanied by a strong wave of dizziness that made everything around him blur. When he regained his clarity, he found himself in an unfamiliar ancient street.
The street was lined with quaint buildings, and pedestrians dressed in traditional attire hurried past. Lin Mo was taken aback and looked down at his modern clothing, realizing with alarm that he was out of place. He tried to find a place to hide and figure out what had happened.
“Stop! Who are you? Why are you dressed so strangely?” A sharp voice called from behind him. Lin Mo turned around to see several officials in uniforms holding weapons, watching him warily.
“I… I’m a traveler who got lost,” Lin Mo quickly fabricated an excuse, silently praying that he could get away with it.
“Hmph, what kind of traveler dresses like you? Come with us to the magistrate's office!” The officials did not believe him and moved forward to apprehend him.
Panic surged within Lin Mo; he did not want to be taken to the magistrate's office. Who knew what might happen there? In his desperation, he instinctively concentrated, trying to trigger his ability to return to the modern world once more. However, this time, his ability did not activate as he had hoped.
“Let me go! I really am just lost!” Lin Mo shouted while struggling. Just as the standoff continued, a familiar figure appeared.
“Stop! He is my guest.” Lin Mo focused and realized it was Su Yuqing! No, she must just be someone who resembled Su Yuqing from this ancient time. She wore splendid traditional clothing and exuded an extraordinary aura, her eyes reflecting a wisdom similar to Su Yuqing's.
Upon seeing her, the officials immediately bowed respectfully. “Greetings, Miss. Since he is your guest, we shall not disturb you.” With that, they hurriedly left.
Lin Mo let out a sigh of relief and gratefully looked at the woman before him. “Thank you for saving me. May I ask why you helped me?”
The woman smiled slightly. “There’s something familiar about your aura, and you don’t seem like a bad person. Besides, you appear to have some knowledge about these mysterious symbols; perhaps we can help each other.”
Lin Mo’s heart stirred; he realized this woman might know much about curses and time travel secrets. “Miss, to be honest, I come from the future and arrived here due to some special circumstances. The striation on my forehead is intricately linked to all of this.” He pointed at the striation on his forehead.
A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. “I see; it seems our fates are intertwined. I have also been troubled by strange occurrences lately and feel as if a mysterious force is manipulating everything behind the scenes. My family has guarded a secret about time travel for generations, and it seems this secret is related to the striation on you.”
Lin Mo felt a surge of joy; he had finally found someone who could potentially unlock the mystery. “Can you tell me more about this secret?”
The woman shook her head. “This secret is too significant to reveal lightly. Moreover, it seems there are many eyes watching us right now. Follow me back to my residence; we can discuss this further.”
Lin Mo nodded and followed her to her home. Along the way, he noticed suspicious figures lurking in the shadows, making him increasingly vigilant.
As soon as they arrived at her residence and before Lin Mo could catch his breath, a group of men in black suddenly burst in. Armed with sharp blades and fierce expressions, they charged at Lin Mo and the woman without hesitation.
“Who are you? Why have you invaded my home?” the woman shouted angrily.
The men in black did not respond but attacked wildly instead. Anger surged within Lin Mo; he decided he would no longer sit idly by. Although unsure how much of his ability would work in this ancient setting, he resolved to give it a try.
He concentrated again, and the striation on his forehead glowed brightly once more. This time, instead of traveling through time again, he discovered that his speed and strength had greatly increased. With this newfound power, he engaged fiercely with the attackers.
However, as more men in black joined the fray, Lin Mo gradually felt overwhelmed. Just when he was about to falter, the woman suddenly produced a jade pendant and began chanting incantations. The pendant emitted a dazzling light that temporarily repelled the attackers.
“Quick! We must escape through the secret passage!” The woman pulled Lin Mo towards a hidden door in the room.
They ran desperately through the dark and damp passageway while shouts from the men in black echoed behind them. The passage was filled with a pungent odor that they could hardly notice as their only thought was to escape from there.
After running for an unknown duration, they finally reached the exit of the secret passage. Outside the exit lay a dense forest. As Lin Mo and the woman emerged, they heard the sounds of black-clad pursuers closing in behind them.
"We can't stay here; we need to find a place to hide quickly," Lin Mo said.
The woman nodded, and they continued to run through the forest. Suddenly, Lin Mo accidentally stepped into a trap and fell into a deep pit.
"Lin Mo!" the woman exclaimed, rushing to the edge of the pit to check on him.
Lin Mo struggled to stand at the bottom of the pit, realizing he wasn't seriously injured. "I'm fine. Don't come down; there might be other traps. Go find a rope and pull me up."
The woman nodded and turned to search for a rope. Just then, a group of black-clad men arrived. Seeing the woman at the edge of the pit, they quickly surrounded her.
"Hand over that man, or you'll all die!" the leader of the black-clad men growled.
The woman gritted her teeth. "I don't know what you're talking about; you need to leave here now!"
Seeing her defiance, the black-clad men immediately launched their attack. Though she fought bravely, she was just a weak woman and gradually found it hard to fend off their assault.
In that critical moment, Lin Mo concentrated deeply at the bottom of the pit and attempted to activate his time-travel ability once more. This time, his consciousness seemed to enter a strange space where countless timelines flickered before his eyes. He desperately grasped one of them, hoping to use its power to return to the present while also bringing the woman with him.
Suddenly, a dazzling light surged from the bottom of the pit, and Lin Mo and the woman's figures gradually vanished within it. The black-clad men were blinded by the light and couldn't see anything until it faded away, revealing that Lin Mo and the woman had completely disappeared.
When Lin Mo and the woman reappeared, they found themselves back in the modern Archaeological Research Institute. Su Yuqing was astonished and delighted to see Lin Mo suddenly appear.
"Lin Mo, where have you been? Do you know everyone has been worried about you?" Su Yuqing exclaimed.
Before Lin Mo could respond, he noticed that the woman beside him looked exactly like Su Yuqing.
"What... what's going on?" Su Yuqing asked in surprise as she noticed the woman too.
Lin Mo then realized that this woman might be Su Yuqing's past life. Indeed, as Su Yuqing approached her, the woman quickly merged with her and vanished from sight.
Lin Mo hurriedly recounted his experiences in ancient times to Su Yuqing, who listened in shock.
"I never expected our past lives had such connections. It seems this curse and the secrets of time and space are far more complex than we imagined," Su Yuqing said.
Lin Mo nodded in agreement. "Exactly. We must unravel this mystery quickly; otherwise, the consequences could be dire. In ancient times, I discovered that a mysterious organization has been secretly manipulating everything. They seem to be searching for a power that can control time and space, which may be related to the striation on my forehead and those mysterious symbols."
Su Yuqing pondered for a moment. "Perhaps we can find more clues from the ancient tombs. The symbols we discovered earlier might be key to unlocking this mystery."
Lin Mo and Su Yuqing decided to delve deeper into studying the artifacts and materials unearthed from the tombs. They believed that with persistence, they would surely uncover this time-crossing enigma and lift the curse from Lin Mo's body.
