The electronic lock outside flashed a red dot, and the screen indicated that the password was incorrect. The two groups of people, inside and outside the door, fell into silence. Inside, Makarov pulled out a shotgun from a hidden compartment. The woman who had just come out of the bedroom hurriedly took the children upstairs while grabbing her phone to call for help.
Outside, an elderly man trembled as he inputted the password, but was pulled back by Alexei, who had a gun pressed against him. Along with him was an elderly woman, terrified. He gestured for them to retreat. A stout man stepped forward and began to stick a clay-like substance around the door, inserting two thin wires.
Everyone held their guns, tense and focused. The installer stepped back a few paces, turned his back to the security door, lowered his head, and pressed a button: Boom!
"Charge in! Charge in!"
The security door and its frame were blown into the apartment. Xu Li pushed aside the man blocking his way and led the charge into the living room. He was confident in his own abilities; he wouldn’t die from a minor injury, but he couldn’t guarantee the same for others.
They were helping him with this task; he had to value their lives. If not, who would work with him next time?
Seven or eight strong men crouched low with their guns drawn as they stormed into the apartment to conduct a search. From the second floor, they could hear a little girl’s terrified screams. Two men pulled the elderly couple in front of them, resting them on their shoulders while tilting their heads toward the damaged door.
Bang!
Xu Li kicked open a door, tightening his grip on the shotgun as he searched inside. After confirming that no one was there, he moved to the next bedroom. The others followed suit, searching each guest room and bedroom as well as any entertainment rooms.
Quickly, the woman and her children were brought down to the living room. Alexei shook his head at Xu Li: "We didn’t find Makarov."
He pointed at the dining table: "There’s an extra set of utensils here; that bastard must be hiding."
Xu Li nodded and grabbed the collar of a chubby boy, lifting his shirt to reveal stitched scars on his side. He scanned the area while holding onto the boy: "What’s more important to you, Makarov’s life or your family’s?"
When there was no response, he tossed the boy to the ground and placed his boot on his head, drawing out his gun towards the woman who was watching over her three daughters: "Where is your husband?"
"I... I don’t know."
The woman tightened her grip on her crying child, unable to look at the man standing over her son. Xu Li slowly cocked back the hammer of his gun: Click!
The faint sound made the woman shudder. Xu Li fired a shot next to the chubby boy’s head: Bang!
The little girl screamed in fear, blending her cries with her mother’s sobs and the boy’s pleas for mercy. Xu Li continued to cock back the hammer: "Madam, you wouldn’t want to witness your child die before your eyes now, would you?"
The village chief had three police cars speeding out of the station; they would arrive in no more than five minutes.
"Understood."
Xu Li frowned and holstered his gun, shaking his head at Alexei: "Get everyone out; the police are coming."
The men dragged the entire family into a vehicle and drove off in several black vans that exited from the apartment's underground parking lot before dispersing into the snowy night. While everyone else left, Xu Li quietly hid behind the bathroom door adjacent to the living room.
As time ticked away, about five minutes later, chaotic footsteps echoed from outside: "Big brother! Big brother!"
"Suka Blyat! Where are they?"
