I loved him too much; I was afraid he would abandon me and our child. How could you make me divorce him? I refuse to do so. 0

As she spoke, she moved forward to grab her husband's shoulder, startling him into a frantic retreat. "Uncle Makarov, save me!" she cried out behind her. 0

Feeling the trembling of the man behind her, Xu Li rolled her eyes. With her left hand, she grasped Liliya's wrist tightly, causing the girl to wince in pain, while her right hand protected Andrei, leading them both into her office. She pushed Liliya onto the sofa and sat down in the middle, with Andrei curling up beside her. 0

"I really don't want to get involved in your mess," Xu Li said as she lit a cigarette and offered one to Andrei. Then she turned her curious gaze toward Liliya, who was rubbing her wrist. "How did you know Andrei came to our village?" 0

"I put a tracker in his car," Liliya replied, glancing at her husband and pouting. "I was worried he might get into trouble, so I wanted to help him in time." 0

"Not monitoring him?" Xu Li asked with a smirk. 0

Seeing the village chief's half-smile, Liliya pouted again in tacit acknowledgment. Xu Li pressed on, "What about the child?" 0

"He's in the car." 0

"Have you thought about the child?" Xu Li looked at Liliya. "A father in a family is often the strongest and most reliable figure; he is the backbone for the child. If you portray Andrei as weak and easily bullied in front of the child, it can easily lead to feelings of inferiority." 0

"Without a strong father figure, if other kids bully them at school and they think of their father's weakness, they won't expect him to stand up for them and will just have to endure the bullying. Don't you think so?" 0

"Who dares to bully my child? I'll wipe out their entire family!" Liliya slammed her palm on the coffee table with a loud bang that startled Andrei, causing him to nearly drop his cigarette. He shrank closer to Xu Li, glaring at Liliya in frustration. "So you think you're tough? Want to fight?" 0

"I can't beat you," she replied, glancing at Xu Li's thick neck compared to her own head. Pouting and lowering her head, she felt utterly wronged as tears streamed down her cheeks. "What have I done wrong? Your parents were bullied in the village; wasn't it me who called my dad and brother to bring a dozen people to support your family?" 0

"I bought whatever you wanted; I took most of my salary each month to support your parents. Every time my brother brought meat, I made sure he delivered half of it to your family. I've been taking care of the child while you come home to eat and play games. Have I ever complained about you?" 0

"Now that I'm older and not as pretty as before, with a body that doesn't look as good anymore, you start to disdain me. Don't think I don't know what you're really thinking; you're interested in that little vixen! You did this on purpose to make me angry so you could divorce me!" 0

"I didn't!" Andrei shrank closer to Xu Li again. "You treat me well and are good to my family, but you've never considered my feelings. You discipline the child while I’m left out; he’s not afraid of me at all and doesn’t want to talk to me. Do you know how much that hurts?" 0

"Whenever things don’t go your way, you hit me! Since we got married, you've hit me countless times—I've lost count of how many punches or slaps you've given me! We've only been married for nine months! Do you know how much damage each time does to my body and mind?" 0

Liliya was at a loss for words because she had never thought about these things before; she only knew that when she felt upset, she took it out on her husband. Now it had become a habit. Sitting between them, Xu Li's face twitched as she calculated: if it were nine months of marriage, then it truly felt like every three days there was a small fight and every week a big one—all with Andrei bearing the brunt of it. 0
