Angelina felt a bit reluctant as she carefully placed the child next to Kamila. "I wish I could hold him a little longer," she said.
"Then why don't you hurry up and have another one?" Kamila teased.
Pouting slightly, Angelina replied, "I'm afraid it will hurt."
Laughter erupted in the room.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely invite the young man that Miss Jing Tian mentioned," said a slightly thin middle-aged man as he hung up the phone. He rubbed his face and pondered who in the Huaxia Entertainment Circle could rival the popularity of the Hua Xia Brothers.
The problem was, they were professionals at singing; coming to act was just absurd, wasn't it?
He picked up the landline and dialed a number. "Xiao Wang, call Pinnacle Entertainment and ask how much it would cost to invite Xu Jiaguo to star in a Fantasy Film."
"Uh, Zhang Dao, no need to ask. Director Teng Hua originally wanted to invite Xu Jia to play the lead in his film Magic City Fortress, but Pinnacle Entertainment's asking price is already high, and they are picky about the script and actors. They said they wouldn't participate without seasoned actors alongside them. The brothers' individual fees are already in the tens of thousands, and together they want a friendly price of a billion."
With a snap, the middle-aged man slammed down the phone, pulling out a cigarette to smoke away his frustration. Just then, the screenwriter walked in with a polished script. "Zhang Dao, take a look at the script's quality."
Zhang Yimou waved his hand and expressed his difficulties, but the screenwriter grinned. "Director, this matter is actually easy to resolve. I heard from someone that Wu Ershan's script has been refined and he took an early flight to Jinling this morning. He plans to invite the Hua Xia Brothers and his two older brothers all at once. Your reputation is greater than his; if you personally invite them, anyone would choose you."
"But what about their fees..."
"Ah, fees are for dead people; opportunities to collaborate with you are something many would break their heads to get!"
The screenwriter's words enlightened him, and he immediately stood up and headed outside. "Book tickets; we’re going right now! And keep an eye on that young man Wu Ershan; we can't let him get ahead of us!"
"Alright!"
The two of them exited the office one after another, each making phone calls as they busily went about their tasks.
"Hey, if you ever let me write songs again in the next two or three years, I'll make sure you regret it," Xu Li said as he handed a document to Xu Lei.
Xu Lei grinned sheepishly. "That can't be! You're my older brother; you've worked hard!"
Xu Lei quickly organized his things and poured tea for his boss. "Tomorrow a director is coming over who wants to invite Xiao Si Xiao Wu for a movie. The pay isn't much; I already turned him down, but he still insists on meeting."
"What movie?"
Xu Lei lit a cigarette and took a couple of puffs. Noticing his boss frowning, he hurriedly opened the window and stood by it while slowly smoking. "It's an old version of Fengshen Bang; that story has been filmed to death already. The director is Wu Ershan, who directed Hua Pi and Xun Long Jue."
I have high hopes for his abilities, but I’m not optimistic about the mythological story of Fengshen Bang. He went on and on over the phone, planning to turn it into a series of films, something akin to The Lord of the Rings.
Xu Li rhythmically tapped his right index finger against his knee, countless images flashing in and out of his mind. In the end, he envisioned a group of muscular men celebrating in a grand hall, wielding swords and shields. The impressive special effects and mythological restoration made him glance at the smoking Xu Lei. "Have him call me tomorrow when he arrives; I want to see his script."
"What are you trying to do?" Xu Lei's eyelids twitched uncontrollably. "He's broke, with hardly any funding. How could this possibly be a big production? It’s probably just another gimmick."
