The doctor sitting across from Xu Li was only around thirty, with a curvy figure and big, sparkling eyes. She gently bit her lip as she assessed the strong man in front of her. "Are you sure you want to be discharged today?"
"Of course! My wife is pregnant again. Having too many children is exhausting; I need to take good care of her," he replied confidently.
Xu Li chuckled softly, then picked up his report and exited the consultation room. He walked with slightly parted legs towards the waiting area, where Ivan quickly approached him. "Are you sure you don't want to stay in the hospital for observation? What did the doctor say?"
"What else could she say? The place where I had the vasectomy has loosened up on its own. Honestly, I'm in better shape than a seventeen or eighteen-year-old!"
"Really? It can happen like that?"
His words shattered Ivan's understanding of reality. A vasectomy can reverse itself? That was downright unscientific!
Soon, his brother-in-law You and Lao San Vasily also came over, both reeking of smoke. Xu Li frowned at these three true matchmakers. "I'm warning you, smoking is bad for the fetus. You three old smokers need to keep your distance from Anna and Eva, got it?"
You rolled his eyes impatiently at him and smacked his lips while sizing up his brother-in-law, unable to connect him with the little boy from years ago. Vasily pointed towards the end of the corridor. "They're waiting for us."
The four men stood in a row, blocking the hospital corridor completely. A few freshly graduated nurses pressed themselves against the wall, waiting for these Maozi to pass by. One little girl with a baby face couldn't help but mutter, "What uncivilized Heizi!"
Xu Li's ears perked up but he ignored her. After living on this land for decades, what difference did it make to him whether they were Maozi or not?
Seeing Anna and Eva sitting on a long bench eating ice cream, he rushed over and quietly advised them, "You two ancestors shouldn't eat cold things; it's not good for your bodies. How about we skip it? Once you're out of confinement, I'll buy you a whole box!"
"Hmph."
"No way."
The two women who were about to become grandmothers acted like little girls, turning their heads to continue eating ice cream as if Xu Li's good intentions were nonsense. You Ya looked at her brother-in-law's concerned face and smiled. "Our Slavic women aren't that delicate. Let's go, Misha; the smell of disinfectant in this hospital isn't pleasant."
"Hey, hey, hey!"
He hurriedly nodded, taking one arm of each woman as they carefully made their way outside. As they approached the steps, he reminded them softly, "Take it slow on the steps."
Ivan rolled his eyes. "Is it really that serious just because she's pregnant?"
"You have no idea!"
Xu Li shot a glare at his brother-in-law. "Is this an ordinary pregnant woman? These are my two ancestors! They're almost forty! They're considered high-risk pregnancies! Do you have any idea what kind of risks they're facing this time around?"
Seeing his brother-in-law rendered speechless by his rebuttal, Xu Li rolled his eyes again. "I really don't know how You Ya Sister puts up with you."
"My ancestors are getting in the car; take it easy!"
As Eva squeezed into the back seat and shifted around restlessly, he felt his heart leap into his throat. After Anna got into the car, he gently closed the door and pushed aside his brother-in-law in the driver's seat. "Move aside! Don't you know I'm taking my two ancestors home? Can't you show a little awareness? How do you even manage as a director?"
After starting the car, he rolled down the window and said, "Remember to keep it a secret. I want to give the kids a surprise. Feel free to come by more often. I'm off now."
