Beside them, He Ling and Sha Yi were laughing so hard that their shoulders shook. Reba lowered her head, trying to suppress her laughter, her face flushed bright red. Yang Mi, furious, trembled with anger as she glared at the two brothers in silence. Their clear yet foolish eyes met hers for a long moment.
Xu Jiaguo offered a piece of cucumber he had taken a few bites from to Yang Mi. "Auntie, do you want some cucumber?"
"No, thank you. You all continue eating," Yang Mi replied with a forced smile. She took her staff and dipped some sauce before heading to the room to rest, not forgetting to nod at the three lesser-known actresses. She looked down on these third-tier stars and rolled her eyes at their lack of acknowledgment.
The slightly plump Jiang Xin huffed in annoyance, "What’s that all about? Just forget it."
Zhang Nana and Wang Xue quietly tried to persuade her. They weren’t regular guests but had been brought in through connections from their agency to ride on the coattails of Yang Mi and the Xu brothers.
"What’s wrong with Xin Jie?" Xu Jiaping approached and squatted down, offering half of his cucumber to Jiang Xin. "Want some? It’s really fresh."
Jiang Xin took the cucumber and took a bite. "It’s that old woman again, what’s she flaunting about?"
"Wasn’t she just laughing?" The young man was still naive and didn’t understand how to read people’s expressions. His innocent foolishness was obvious to everyone. Seeing Xu Jiaping's simple demeanor lightened Jiang Xin's mood considerably. "You’re still young; there are some things you don’t understand."
"Oh," Xu Jiaping said, squatting beside them, listening as they chatted about their work or funny moments from the set. Jiang Xin was still in school but had participated in the mainland remake of "Tian Long Ba Bu," gaining some popularity through her role as Mu Wanqing.
"Hey, how did you all end up on this show? Was it arranged by your company?" Zhang Nana asked curiously. Wang Xue and Jiang Xin also turned their attention to Xu Jiaping, who scratched his head.
"My uncle told us about it when he went down there. He said that the Toilet Station is launching a new program and asked if we wanted to come experience it. I’ve never been to the countryside in Huaxia before, so I agreed."
As he munched on his cucumber happily, he continued, "This place is different from our hometown; here the cows are dark greenish-black and even plow fields! My family’s cows just eat and sleep all day."
His little joke made the three actresses burst into laughter. Jiang Xin ruffled his hair playfully. "You’ve raised cows; you must have some feelings for them. Would you really be willing to eat one?"
"You’re really good-looking, unlike my dad and brother; their faces are all hairy and ugly." He continued enthusiastically, "We have over ten thousand cows at home, plus pigs, sheep, and horses! Recently my dad caught a dozen moose; he said once we have enough of them, we’ll slaughter one to try it out."
Wang Xue gasped in surprise, "Moose are protected animals!"
"But in Siberia, they aren’t protected!" he replied matter-of-factly.
Xu Jiaping grinned and said, "When summer vacation comes, I’ll take you all to my house. You can ride the Tiger Brown Bear and even drive a tank!"
"Just don’t back out when the time comes!"
Zhang Nana and Wang Xue chuckled, thinking Xu Jiaping was just being polite. Such invitations were common, and no one took them seriously. However, Jiang Xin stared at Xu Jiaping for a long time. Being three years older than him, she thought it might be worth a try!
"Time to eat!"
Huang San Shi's head popped out from the kitchen as he called out. Xu Jiaguo and Xu Jiaping dashed over excitedly, shouting, "Food’s ready!"
