"Yes, yes, yes! My dad eats a lot!"
Xu Jiaguo nodded repeatedly in agreement. Huang Lei glanced at the array of ingredients on the stove: a three-pound San Huang Chicken, a two-pound Grass Carp, a bunch of celery, two cucumbers, a carrot, six eggs, and three tomatoes, along with some Rice Flour Oil.
He sighed, "It's fine; I can manage here alone. You guys go play outside for a bit."
"Uncle, I'm hungry. Can I have a cucumber?" Xu Jia looked longingly at the two cucumbers. Xu Jiaguo was watching too. Huang San Shi picked up a cucumber, rinsed it under the tap, and handed it to the two boys. "Here you go."
"Thank you, Uncle!"
The brothers happily munched on their cucumbers as they exited the kitchen. Huang San Shi quickly pulled out his phone to call He Ling. "These two Little Guys have monstrous appetites. Can you ask the director to get some more food? This isn't even enough for one of them!"
He Ling had just switched her phone to speaker mode, so the director and several crew members nearby heard him. The director waved over two crew members and instructed them to buy more cured meats and fresh vegetables from the village.
"Are there still people coming?" Yang Dao asked.
The director replied with an affirmative grunt, "Two more are on their way. Their flight was delayed, so they're running a bit late but should be here soon."
"Then I'll just wait here."
The two chatted casually while the monitor in front of the director displayed various angles capturing the stars entering the courtyard from every direction. Soon enough, crew members arrived carrying several pieces of cured meat and a large bag of sausages, along with two baskets overflowing with vegetables. The director instructed them to leave half behind and send the rest over to Huang San Shi before continuing his conversation: "The first episode will be pre-recorded; after that, it'll be live. Make sure to collect their phones tonight; the production team has provided sponsor phones for them."
"Is that really okay? What if they need to handle something?"
"I've already spoken with their agents; it's fine."
Seeing that the director was confident about it, He Ling stopped pressing for details and got up to greet the two women who had just stepped off the minibus: "I didn't expect it to be Yang Mi and Reba joining our show!"
"We can't miss the chance to record with you," Yang Mi replied casually as she chatted with Reba while nodding towards the director. They strolled leisurely towards the courtyard. Yang Mi had wanted Reba and another Xiao Zhi to come on this show; upon learning that Xu Father’s two precious sons were participating as well, she immediately expressed her desire to join in too.
"As long as I can connect with Xu Father, I might even get to collaborate on a song or two. Nowadays, Pinnacle Entertainment can thrive solely on its artists' performances; we Jia Hang also want a piece of that pie."
The brothers sat in a corner of the courtyard with freshly picked cucumbers from the basket, scrolling through short videos. Two tall figures appeared before them, and they looked up to see two distinctly different faces smiling down at them.
"Aunt Yang!"
"Sister Reba!"
Yang Mi's lips twitched slightly as she looked up at the two tall boys and said somewhat unhappily, "Am I really that old?"
The two brothers scratched their heads and exchanged glances before looking at Yang Mi. They nodded silently. Xu Jiaguo timidly said, "Since we were little, our mom taught us to be polite. Auntie is just one year younger than my mom, so we can't mess up the hierarchy!"
Xu Jia chimed in, nodding in agreement, "Yeah, yeah! If we called you 'sister,' that would put you a generation below our parents!"
