"Are you interested in this car?"
The young man stood in front of a Japanese sedan, nodding repeatedly. Xu Li rolled his eyes. "Don't buy such a small car. You're a tall guy at one meter eighty; driving this will make you look cheap, and it's too flimsy and unsafe."
As he spoke, he led him and the silent Gennady to a nearby Great Wall dealership, patting the hood of a newly released model from the second half of this year. "This is the new Great Wall. Just imagine how impressive it will look on the road. Plus, when you have more kids, there will be enough space for everyone. Don't you think that's reasonable?"
Ivanov gazed at the military green behemoth in front of him, his throat involuntarily tightening as he looked toward his father. "Dad..."
"Buy it!"
Gennady examined the car's price, then scrutinized its exterior and interior while the salesperson continued to explain its features. Xu Li lit a cigarette and quietly smoked, helping the father and son negotiate for a while. The outcome was about what he had expected. Gennady pulled out his bank card to make the payment, and at that moment, when one hundred thousand rubles were deducted, the old Russian felt a pang of regret.
However, knowing that his eldest son would be living with Nadia in the village and that he would soon have grandchildren to hold made it all worthwhile!
After arranging for the car, the three of them went to the largest mall in Bratsk. He led the father and son directly to the boss's office. Some long-time employees recognized Xu Li and came over to greet him. "Haha, Makarov! Long time no see."
"Long time no see."
As Xu Li exchanged greetings while handing out cigarettes, he knocked on the office door. Upon entering, he found Sophia there as well. He opened his arms and approached her for a cheek kiss. "Sister-in-law, you still look so young and beautiful."
Misha replied, "You still know how to flatter people."
Sophia nodded at Gennady and his son before stepping out to make tea. Vasily recognized Gennady and shook hands with him, then glanced at the somewhat shy young man with a smile. "It's rare to see a married man willing to stay in the village; this young man is quite good!"
Ivanov just chuckled awkwardly as Xu Li took a couple of puffs from his cigarette. "I've calculated everything here: tableware, drinks, cigarettes, candies, vegetables, fruits, seafood... I sent you the list last night. Also, I need a batch of high-power ovens and other equipment; my restaurant's kitchenware needs replacing too. You can figure out how much that will cost."
"Are we still discussing these things?"
Vasily smiled. "I'll have someone go to the warehouse for those kitchen appliances and electric stoves; they can be delivered by noon today. As for ingredients, let’s wait a couple of days for some fresh supplies."
"Sounds good."
After chatting for a while, Sophia entered with tea and handed it to them before sitting next to Vasily. "Misha, you need to help your nephew."
"What happened?"
Xu Li turned to Sophia. "Did Xie Liaosha cause trouble?"
"How should I put it?" Vasily chuckled lightly. "This kid doesn't want to stick with his stable job; he insists on chasing some dream in Moscow. But now that he's there, instead of pursuing his dream, he's gotten into business trouble with a local young man. Both companies are gearing up to try and outdo each other."
"This matter falls into our hands; I can't let Xie Liaosha suffer," Vasily said firmly. "But since he's in Moscow where we don't have much influence, can't your in-law help? He's the owner of a local energy company; maybe he can lend a hand so that Xie Liaosha doesn't get taken advantage of."
