Xu Weihua smiled and pressed the accelerator, roaring away. Some children in the village, hearing the sound, rushed to their yard gates, fingers in their mouths, eagerly watching the tank speed off.
Xu Li stood with her hands on her hips, watching the tank disappear into the distance before lighting a cigarette and continuing to clear the weeds that had grown in the yard. Anna and Eva emerged from their smart greenhouse, their basket filled with freshly picked fruits and vegetables.
Eva glanced at the somewhat empty storage shed and felt an uneasy premonition. She called her husband, "Where did the kids take the tank?"
Xu Li chuckled, "They must be racing at the ranch. What's the big deal? You often drive it around too."
"That's not it!"
Eva was genuinely worried now. "Quick, call them back! There are three real Cannonballs in the tank that I didn't finish using last time."
"What???"
Xu Li was taken aback as well. "But Boyka didn’t say he was sending real Cannonballs!"
"I secretly asked him for some; I planned to blow up the fish pond this winter."
Eva mumbled this with little confidence. Xu Li rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone to call their eldest. However, it was Anna who answered: "The kids didn’t even take their phones; they probably went out to play."
"Wait—"
Anna shot an annoyed glance at her phone after it was hung up and stormed out of the living room just in time to see her husband running towards the ranch in slippers. She was puzzled: "What’s Eva doing?"
Uh...
Eva explained everything to Anna, and they both fell silent simultaneously. This could end badly!
"Yah-hoo! Oleg, step on it! Let’s charge at those ducks!"
Angelina sat in the observation seat, giggling excitedly, while Kamila's round little face flushed with excitement. Despite the noise and bumps inside, they couldn’t contain their thrill; her small hand hovered near the firing button.
Xu Weihua peered through the observation hole at the endless grassland outside and shouted, "Second brother, load the shell!"
"Got it!"
Xu Weixia immediately pulled out a specially made Cannonball from the rear compartment and stuffed it into the cannon barrel. Once the barrel closed, he shouted loudly, "Loading complete!"
Angelina looked toward a small hill in the distance: "Agan!"
Kamila promptly pressed the launch button. The tank suddenly shook violently and emitted a loud bang: "Boom!"
Although no projectile flew out, the realism was overwhelming. The cabin filled with a strong smell of gunpowder as four Xiao Nianqing were unable to contain their excitement. Xu Lao Er quickly loaded another Cannonball after the shell ejected.
