Xu Li scoffed, "Every day it's the same old shows, just reheating the same material. They either change a few notes or rewrite the lyrics, shamelessly claiming it's original. They should take a look at what they're actually writing—it's all over the place."
After a moment of thought, he continued disdainfully, "I think most singers in this country need to change their direction. They only know how to sing about love and emotions; the melodies are so soft that they could never win any international awards. They might do okay here domestically, but the real talent comes from the older generation of singers. Their songs are classics. The current ones? Pathetic."
Kena gestured for the cameraman to stop filming and awkwardly asked, "Brother Xu, what you just said might offend some people. Shouldn't you tone it down a bit?"
"Tone it down? Why should I?" Xu Li rolled his eyes. "If they sing like crap, why shouldn't I say so? That guy from the Sea Selection phase—what was his name again? He can't even sing! Even those who used to perform funeral dirges sang better than him. It's embarrassing, really."
Uh...
They struggled to find a rebuttal to his blunt honesty and filmed some additional dialogue before following Xu Li around as he casually showed them the house. Eventually, they all settled in the living room to relax while Xu Li headed into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
"Wow, Brother Xu, this beef is delicious!" Kena exclaimed as they ate, giving him a thumbs up.
Xu Li smiled and replied, "If it tastes good, then eat more."
The cameraman, Da Qiang, raised his glass and said, "Brother Xu, thank you for your hospitality. Cheers!"
Xu Li grinned and clinked glasses with him before tilting his head back and downing a full glass of wine. Da Qiang blinked in surprise and said, "Aren't we just taking a sip? Why are you so straightforward?"
Giggling...
Da Qiang's bewildered expression made Zhuo Ya laugh. The young girl caught Xu Li's glance and stuck out her tongue before pouring herself a big gulp from the wine bottle. She then stuffed a piece of beef into Irina's mouth. Irina felt shy under everyone's gaze and buried her head in her food.
Kena watched Irina's little face for quite some time before exclaiming, "Brother Xu, your daughter is really beautiful! How old is she this year?"
Irina was no longer the timid girl who had to tread carefully through life; she had gained confidence thanks to Xu Li and Anna's nurturing. With plenty of meat and dairy in her diet, her little face was round and rosy, her bright blue eyes sparkling like stars, and her eyelashes fluttering like tiny fans—she looked just like a real-life Barbie doll.
"This is my girlfriend," Xu Li said proudly. "She's also my goddaughter who says 'You are really good-looking,' unlike my dad and brother whose faces are all hairy and ugly."
Zhuo Ya didn't like being scrutinized by others; she wrapped her arm around Irina's shoulders as if claiming ownership. Da Qiang and Da Zha Ge exchanged glances between Zhuo Ya and Irina, suddenly shivering at the thought—they genuinely couldn't appreciate such things.
Kena smiled at them both to ease the atmosphere with some pleasant conversation; everyone at the dining table seemed to get along well.
Zhuo Ya was annoyed by Da Qiang's shivering reaction. With a cheerful smile, she poured herself a glass of fruit wine and gestured to Da Qiang: "Uncle, shall we have a drink together?"
"Hey, let's do it!"
They both tilted their heads back and finished their drinks in one go. Afterward, Zhuo Ya kept raising her glass to toast with Da Qiang; it seemed they were getting a bit tipsy. Xu Li softly remarked, "Eat something; you can't outdrink my daughter."
"Hic!"
Da Qiang burped and looked at Zhuo Ya before glancing back at Xu Li. "I can't outdrink her? A girl? Come on now, Brother Xu! Don't forget I'm from Northeast China; I've never been afraid of anyone when it comes to drinking."
Good fuck
