Eva shook her husband's shoulder. "Anna and I want to see it too."
"Sure, staying at home all day isn't an option. It’s a good chance to spend time with the kids," Xu Li replied, not opposing his wife's idea of traveling for a while to explore new things. The three of them discussed their plans for the summer over dinner.
Xu Li had his hands full with the ranch; the cattle were getting bigger and required more attention. The sheep herd was about to give birth in large numbers, making it difficult for him to get away. On top of that, he had a lot going on at the cornfield, as his responsibilities had expanded significantly.
Meanwhile, the sisters opened a map and began discussing their summer vacation plans, intending to spend over two months traveling across China. Xu Li listened to their conversation while eating dinner and couldn't help but smile. There were so many places to enjoy in China.
He leaned in and kissed Eva softly on the lips. "China is different from Da Mao's place; try not to get into fights with anyone."
"Don't worry! If anyone dares to touch me, I'll just lie down on the ground and make a scene," Eva replied playfully, winking before taking Lisa and Peter through the boarding gate. Anna shared a passionate kiss with her husband. "Misha, don’t you dare cheat at home."
"Who do you think I am? Even if I wanted to cheat, there’s no one suitable in the village," he retorted.
Xu Li hugged his wife. "Call me when you arrive."
"Okay."
"Makarov, I'll take good care of your sister-in-law. Goodbye!"
Xiao Dasha happily took Anna's hand and waved goodbye to Xu Li as they entered the boarding gate. Xu Li waved back, grabbing his bag and catching up with his wife as they walked away, chatting and laughing together.
Xu Li sighed as he left the airport and headed towards his brother-in-law's house. His father-in-law and Zhang Ji Niang were watching television while Xiao Kachusha ran around with their Caucasian dog, giggling joyfully.
He plopped down next to his father-in-law. "Dad, where's Zhuo Ya?"
"She went shopping with Safna and hasn't returned yet."
Old Andrei glanced at Xu Li, who looked exhausted, and patted his knee. "There's no need to tire yourself out like this. Your ranch is doing well; why expand it further? Is it because you don’t have enough money or do you want to achieve something big?"
Xu Li suddenly froze, pondering for a moment before shaking his head slowly. "I don't know what I was thinking; I got carried away and expanded the ranch. Now that I think about it, it feels like I made a foolish decision."
The old couple looked at their most cherished son-in-law and smiled without saying anything more. Xu Li scratched his head and joined them in watching television until he eventually dozed off. Old Andrei got up to place Xu Li's legs on the sofa and put a cushion behind his head.
The daughters often came to visit them, bringing plenty of things each time. Both the eldest and second daughters' families received gifts as well; although Lao San's family was well-off enough not to need anything, the other children were doing well in Moscow too. All these items were hard-earned money from their son-in-law’s early mornings and late nights, but he never mentioned it.
Having such a child by their side, the Old Couple couldn't help but feel that this was the arrangement of fate.
