Natasha gently touched her son-in-law's face, sipping her drink slowly. Xu Li patted the somewhat reserved Andrei on the shoulder and pointed to himself, saying, "Your names are quite similar to mine and my wife's. I hope you two can also walk hand in hand through life."
"Isn't that a coincidence?"
Ivan casually sat next to Andrei and struck up a conversation with the reserved Zhong Ren. Anan pulled Xu Li aside and asked, "Brother Xu, could you do me a favor?"
Xu Li lit a cigarette and took a puff. "What is it?"
"My sister and brother-in-law are currently renting an apartment, and it's a bit cramped. They went to look at some places the day before yesterday and yesterday, only to find that prices have risen quite a bit. I was thinking, instead of paying such high rent, it might be better to bite the bullet and buy a place of their own."
Anan grinned. "Aren't you working at the police station, Brother Ivan? Could you ask around for me? See if there are any channels to check out properties that are mortgaged at the bank and where clients can't pay back the principal. It doesn't have to be too fancy; just a decent apartment would be fine."
"Is that all?"
Xu Li rolled his eyes. "Just wait."
He took two more puffs of his cigarette and set it in the ashtray before joining his father-in-law and mother-in-law in the living room. He relayed Anan's request roughly to Ivan, who smiled and nodded. Ivan pulled out his phone, stood up, and went elsewhere. He quickly returned: "You guys should go to the Federal Bank on Kazte Street tomorrow morning. The manager there is my friend; he has plenty of properties available. You can choose between installment plans or full payment, and it would help him boost his performance as well."
"Are the prices high?"
Ivan shot him an annoyed glance. "You're my brother-in-law; do you think I'd let you embarrass yourself in front of my friends?"
"Haha, just kidding!" Xu Li chuckled. "You all chat; I'm going to check on Yuli and Vasily in the kitchen."
"Go ahead," Ivan waved him off. Anan brought Dasha into the living room to sit down. Since Andrei was not very talkative, Anan had to keep the conversation going with Ivan while Old Andrei occasionally chimed in, ensuring laughter filled the room.
Fortunately, the house had a dedicated dining area for entertaining guests; otherwise, it would have been too cramped for all the adults and children. Old Andrei and Natasha sat at the head of the table, surrounded by adults and kids alike. Xu Li ushered Anna and Eva to join them for dinner while he cooked in the kitchen.
Once he brought the dishes to the table and sat down, everyone began pouring drinks and serving food. Xu Li picked up his three-year-old niece Katyusha, kissing her cheek as he asked, "What do you like to eat? Uncle will help you get some."
"Ribs! Ribs!"
The little girl pointed eagerly at the Sweet and Sour Ribs. Xu Li used chopsticks to serve her two pieces while holding her in his arms. Ivan frowned slightly. "You like kids so much; why not have Anna and Eva have two more? Stop holding onto my granddaughter so tightly."
"What if they turn out to be two little troublemakers?"
Xu Li shot back playfully while Yuli chuckled beside him. "Boys aren't so bad; why should you favor girls over boys? With your attitude, when Zhuo Ya gets married one day, won't you go crazy?"
"Becoming my son-in-law isn't that easy."
He pulled out a piece of paper to wipe Katyusha's little mouth. "I only have one daughter, Zhuo Ya. If anyone dares to lay a finger on her, I'll skin them alive and feed them to the bears."
Hahaha, Makarov was getting anxious.
