"We're only halfway there, and you're already stopping? I should have known better than to bring you along," Anna pouted as she grabbed Xu Li's hand and shook it. Her bare feet in sandals stomped on the ground, and the swaying lantern made a certain little creature swallow hard. "Where are you guys even going?" 0

Eva pointed deeper into the forest. "We're looking for a super big tree. When Anna and I were kids, we ate fruit from a tree hollow there. But we can only eat it at this time of year. Unfortunately, the remaining fruit isn't ripe yet. Since you're our only friend, we brought you along." 0

Anna pulled Xu Li up and pushed him forward. "We didn't even tell our parents! The fruit is so fragrant and sweet that once we had it, we couldn't forget it." 0

Xu Li gritted his teeth and followed the two sisters deeper into the mountains, feeling uneasy. Fruit? Their father-in-law had mentioned that the sisters had gotten sick after eating the fruit, which had messed with their heads. Did they still want to eat it? 0

"Did you get sick after eating that fruit?" he asked. 0

"Yeah," Anna nodded matter-of-factly. "After we ate the fruit, our heads felt all fuzzy, and then we just fell asleep." 0

Eva continued, "But when we woke up, we felt really good all over and had endless energy! But our parents wouldn't let us do any work; otherwise, we could have done so much." 0

"Could it be some kind of magical treasure from a martial arts novel?" Xu Li thought. "If that's the case, wouldn't I become rich?" 0

He didn't care about any side effects; he was already on his way to becoming something great. Why worry about low intelligence? What a joke! 0

Just thinking about eating that magical fruit and gaining incredible abilities made his steps quicken. With desire came motivation, and a few Caucasian dogs with their tongues lolling followed closely behind, occasionally glancing around cautiously. 0

"Look over there!" Xu Li stood on a small hilltop, panting as he pointed in the direction Anna indicated. There was a massive tree canopy that overshadowed all the smaller trees around it. Eva excitedly grabbed Xu Li's hand and carefully led him down. After about half an hour of walking with the dogs, they finally reached their destination. 0

This patch of land rarely saw sunlight and looked eerie. Xu Li tightened his grip on something in his hand while the Caucasian dogs didn’t seem to sense anything unusual; they quietly followed the three of them until they reached the giant tree and lay down, panting heavily. The summer heat was intense, not friendly at all for large dogs with thick fur. 0

"Look, look!" Eva took Xu Li's left hand and bent down to enter the tree hollow. Anna followed right behind her. The hollow wasn’t very big to begin with, but with all three of them squeezed inside, it became quite cramped. 0

Using the faint light, Anna and Eva began to dig through the damp soil on the ground, revealing a fruit about the size of a small watermelon—a red fruit. As they kept digging downwards, they uncovered its roots, which looked just like ordinary tree roots. 0

"Sniff sniff sniff," Anna leaned down to smell the fruit but suddenly wrinkled her nose. "Why does it smell so bad?" 0

I take a whiff. 0
