"Wah wah wah—"
The sound of the police siren was like a hunting dog chasing its prey, coming closer from afar and quickly fading into the distance.
Lu Sha hid behind the bushes on the emergency lane, prying open the branches with her hands to look outside as three police cars drove past her.
"These cops are so foolish, do they really think I would run this far?" Lu Sha chuckled to herself.
But soon, she was slapped in the face by reality. The police cars, which hadn't even driven five hundred meters away from her position, quickly slowed down and finally stopped at the side of the emergency lane, turning on their hazard lights.
"Eh?! They stopped?!" Lu Sha immediately sensed something was wrong and turned to run towards a distant path through the fields.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Flames erupted from the purple muzzle of the suppressor, and with each trigger pull, the gunfire left a dazzling reflection on the gun body for less than a second. The Fate Conqueror smart sniper rifle was covered in a reflective invisible light purple camouflage, so as Nightmare adjusted the angle of her gun, the gun body reflected different colors along with the flames. Bullets accurately struck each virtual robot's forehead. While she was fully focused on her front view, a virtual robot suddenly appeared behind Nightmare, charging at her for a sneak attack. However, Nightmare's sixth sense alerted her to the danger; in an instant, she transformed her gun into a blade and sliced the robot in half.
"This is the last level." A voice that seemed to come from beyond the world echoed from the blank dome above.
Jiao An changed magazines and glanced at the nine o'clock direction where three-dimensional particle blocks began assembling hostile training models, preparing for battle.
A roar came from the left as a virtual giant Spider Monster generated. Nightmare took the initiative to attack; instead of switching back to gun form, she threw her blade with precision, embedding it into several small eyes on the left side of the Spider Monster.
The Spider Monster let out a scream as Nightmare dashed forward, gripping the hilt of her blade to pull it out while sliding underneath the Spider Monster, cutting into its abdomen as she moved.
Immediately afterward, Nightmare rolled out of harm's way.
If this Spider Monster were real, it would probably be bleeding profusely by now.
With a clang and clatter, Nightmare switched back to her gun form and fired several grenades; "Boom! Boom! Boom!" The Spider Monster was blown apart. Soon after, it let out a final cry and collapsed onto the ground, motionless.
"Easy peasy." Jiao An brushed off dust from her clothes.
"Nice new combo."
The holographic world began to disintegrate, revealing an empty room gradually. General Jiang walked up behind Jiao An. "General Jiang," Jiao An turned around and saluted him.
"You've been practicing for two hours; it's time for a break." General Jiang's voice remained steady and deep as always. "There's new information; I think I need you to come over."
Jiao An holstered her gun on her back and followed General Jiang to his office.
General Jiang poured a cup of tea for Jiao An from a teapot: "Have a seat."
As he spoke, General Jiang adjusted his pants and sat down but noticed Jiao An still standing and asked curiously, "What's wrong?"
Jiao An fidgeted slightly before sitting down: "Uh, General, what’s so important that you need to talk to me for so long? Can I at least get a cup of tea?"
"Well," General Jiang didn't keep her in suspense and got straight to the point, "Lu Sha has news again."
"What?" Jiao An set down her teacup and looked seriously at General Jiang.
"But don't worry; we've already informed police across the country." General Jiang took a sip of tea. "However, we only received reports from citizens at service areas; we haven't found her yet."
Jiao An sighed in relief: "That's good; I still hope she... well, doesn't get discovered by the police."
General Jiang smiled: "Do you remember where she came from?"
"City A; she was trained by the Viper Organization."
"So this time I'm sending you there to find her."
Jiao An raised her head again, her eyes wide open as she looked at General Jiang.

After three days and two nights of arduous travel, Lu Sha finally returned to the familiar mountain road that she remembered, the very place where she had rolled down the slope.
Cars beside her slowly climbed up and down, and Lu Sha felt she could outrun them on foot. But there was nothing she could do; she was simply too exhausted. Her greatest wish now was to find a place to lie down and sleep well.
All the food she had saved before leaving was gone, and the only thing left to fill her stomach was half a bottle of water she had picked up from the roadside.
"We're almost there, just a little further..."
Lu Sha passed a bend and finally caught sight of the steep slope and turn ahead. If she remembered correctly, this was where she had fallen.
For some reason, Lu Sha suddenly felt energized. She gritted her teeth, took off her sun hat, and sprinted forward.
She no longer cared about her appearance; Lu Sha leaped over the fence like a diver, plunging downwards.
But Lu Sha wasn't foolish; she performed a backflip in mid-air and shot out her Chain Spear just as her arms pointed towards the steep ground.
The spear embedded itself in the soil, and Lu Sha pulled on her chain to descend rapidly, her feet bracing against the ground as she skidded to a stop, leaving two marks on the earth.
With only four meters of chain available, it quickly ran out. With a loud thud, the chain caught Lu Sha firmly, causing her to sway on the slope.
"I have no choice!" Lu Sha thought resolutely as she retracted her Chain Spear and let herself fall from the slope.
"Ah!"
"Ugh!"
Lu Sha tumbled down, the pain throughout her body making it difficult to focus enough to shoot out her Chain Spear again to regain control. In that moment of rolling, she saw a river below and in a panic fired her Chain Spear randomly, which surprisingly lodged itself into the ground.
Fortunately, Lu Sha was strong; she held onto the chain tightly enough to prevent herself from falling into the water.
This time Lu Sha learned her lesson. After confirming that she had stable footing, she retracted her Chain Spear again. However, the slope was too steep, and she still fell to the ground, sliding down the grassy incline.
With her head facing downward, she plunged into the river. The cold sensation hit harder than any pain, instantly waking up her exhausted mind.
The girl quickly inhaled sharply and sat up straight, shaking off droplets of water from her hair with a splash.
Falling into the river turned out to be a stroke of luck; there happened to be a tree nearby. If she had hit her head on it instead, it would have taken much longer for her to regain consciousness.
Lu Sha stood up, but everything around her was pitch black as if her vision had crashed like a computer. She struggled to keep herself upright by holding onto the tree trunk and took some time to recover before attempting to take a step forward. However, the pain was so intense that it made moving impossible.
"What... should I do?" Lu Sha decided to sit down instead; she was too tired and thought it wouldn't hurt to rest for a bit before setting off again.
"Just rest for a while... just a little while..." Lu Sha kept telling herself as her eyelids grew heavy. They drooped down onto her lower eyelids before her mouth opened slightly, her head tilted, and with a full-body relaxation, she fell asleep within seconds.
Time passed quickly; the sunset had already painted the mountains red. The orange glow of dusk cast its last rays through the gaps in the leaves onto the face of this sleeping girl.
"Woof! Woof! Woof..." A series of wet warmth continuously disturbed Lu Sha's cheeks. She frowned slightly and moved her head unconsciously.
"Woof! Woof..."
Suddenly feeling some weight on her body, Lu Sha's consciousness began to return as she recalled that she had only intended to rest for a moment.
"Oh no!" Lu Sha sprang up from leaning against the tree trunk; it was almost dark!
"Woof!"
A dog was standing on the ground, eagerly wagging its tail like a windshield wiper as it turned in circles upon seeing Lu Sha wake up.
"Lezai!"
Lu Sha immediately recognized the yellow Chinese Country Dog. After two years apart, Lezai seemed to have gained a little weight and appeared more mature.
Lezai whined softly, sniffing Lu Sha, seemingly unsure if she had really returned.
"Haha." Lu Sha laughed excitedly like an eight-year-old child. She squatted down, tucked her hair behind her ear, and repeatedly rubbed Lezai's head. Lezai lay on the ground, exposing its belly for Lu Sha to pet.
A gentle breeze blew by, seemingly awakening the exhilarated Lu Sha, who gradually remembered where she wanted to go. She pointed ahead and said to Lezai, "I want to see Grandpa Sen. Take me there, okay, little cutie?"
Lezai stood up and sprinted across the fallen leaves with a crunching sound, deliberately lifting its legs as it ran. The leaves danced in the air with each step before settling back down, as if welcoming Lu Sha back.
"Wait for me!" Lu Sha laughed. The girl finally shed her previous restraint and expressionlessness, running carefree after Lezai with a lively spirit.
In the slanting sunlight, a dog and a smiling girl ran through the leaf-strewn forest. From a distance, even the smile of the Mona Lisa seemed to lose its luster.
Inside the cabin:
"Why isn't this kid back yet?"
Grandpa Sen was preparing food for Lezai, placing chopped raw fish into a bowl.
"Woof! Woof!"
"Finally back! It's been too long since I taught this rascal a lesson." Grandpa Sen turned around just as a figure fell from the sky and rolled to his feet.
This startled Grandpa Sen, causing him to step back and almost knock over Lezai's food bowl.
"Am I handsome?" Lu Sha stood up with her head tilted and smiled.
"You are..." Grandpa Sen examined the skinny girl for a long time before noticing her red hair and realizing, "Lu Sha, you're back?! My goodness, how did you get so thin? What have you been through out there?"
Lu Sha's lips began to tremble as she blinked back tears and rushed toward him. The pain and sorrow of the past two years surged forth like a flood, completely breaking down her emotional defenses.
"Grandpa, I really really missed you! You have no idea what I've been through. I... I just want to have a home... somewhere I don't have to wander between life and death."
Grandpa Sen gently patted Lu Sha's head. He remembered when he first touched her head; she had gently pushed his hand away. Now, this girl seemed softened by fate's trials.
Thinking of this made Grandpa Sen's heart ache; he couldn't imagine what kind of experiences had tortured such a stubborn and strong girl over these two years.
"My child, come inside; I'll make you something delicious," Grandpa Sen said, pressing his cheek against Lu Sha's ear as tears welled up in his eyes without him realizing it.
Perhaps the most beautiful reunion in the world is when you wait for me right where you are while I traverse countless mountains and rivers just to see you.
