"What?" Mi You was stunned. "You want to divorce me?"
She took the divorce agreement and examined it repeatedly.
"Luo Feng, are you serious?"
I nodded. "Yes."
Mi You's expression changed. "Are you still angry with me?"
I shook my head. "After the divorce, the assets will be split evenly."
"I won't take a single cent more from you."
"But you can't take anything that belongs to the Luo family."
Mi You frowned. "What do you mean?"
I closed my eyes. "Before we got married, my mom gave you quite a few properties and cars."
"If you're leaving now, those things should be returned, right?"
Mi You looked at me, seemingly trying to gauge whether I was pretending to be calm.
Ji Zhaoyuan screamed, "What do you mean? Are you insulting Mi You?"
"Don't go too far!"
Mi You stopped her. "Enough!"
She looked at me. "So you want a divorce? Fine."
"First, have your mom apologize to me and withdraw her report against me."
I sneered. "Dream on!"
"How about this? I'll arrange for a top doctor to examine Mr. Ji's mental health."
"So he won't be calling for you every few days."
Mi You was furious. "Shut up! What right do you have to say that?"
She scoffed, "Luo Feng, who do you think you are?"
Ji Zhaoyuan looked at me triumphantly. "Exactly! Who do you think you are?"
"Mi You won't divorce you!"
Just then—
"Mi You!" A familiar voice rang out.
I turned to see the fire chief striding towards me, his expression filled with anger. "Didn't I tell you to handle your resignation paperwork?"
"What are you still doing here?"
Mi You's expression froze. "Chief, let me explain..."
The chief erupted in fury. "Explain what?!"
He cursed vehemently, "Do you really think you're that important?"
"Lu Feng's mother is my former superior. Your words nearly cost her life. Do you understand what that means?"
Mi You's face turned pale. "I didn't mean to..."
The chief scoffed, "If you had meant it, I would have sent you to prison already!"
He sighed, "I truly didn't expect you to do something like this."
"You'll drag the entire fire department down with you!"
"And—" he glanced at me, "I'm truly sorry; it's my fault for not choosing the right people."
I was taken aback. I hadn't expected him to apologize to me. After all, in my past life, he had despised me.
It seemed he had misunderstood me.
He forced a smile. "Your mother came to see me last year, hoping I could help your wife get a promotion."
"We had agreed to surprise her after the Lantern Festival."
"Who would have known..." he sighed.
Mi You's face changed dramatically. "What did you say?"
The chief looked at her coldly. "This is all your fault!"
He turned and walked away.
Mi You stood frozen in place, unable to utter a word for a long time.
After a while, she finally reacted.
Her expression was one of terror as she clutched my hand tightly. "Luo Feng, you can't divorce me!"
Ji Zhaoyuan suddenly collapsed to the ground.
"Mi You..." she gasped, clutching her chest with a pained expression. "I feel so anxious..."
Mi You was startled and rushed over to help him up. "What’s wrong? Don’t scare me!"
Ji Zhaoyuan's face was pale. "It's nothing, I just..."
Mi You's eyes turned red. "Wait for me, I'll call an ambulance!"
I let out a cold laugh.
Here we go again.
Ji Zhaoyuan always used this trick whenever he wanted to deceive Mi You. It was truly disgusting.
"Let’s go." I pushed Mi You aside and helped Ji Zhaoyuan up.
She glanced at me, confused. "What are you doing?"
I maintained a blank expression. "Aren't you feeling anxious? I’ll take you for an examination."
Ji Zhaoyuan paused for a moment.
I turned to Mi You. "Haven't you always said that Mr. Ji is sick?"
"Today is a perfect opportunity."
"We can have him checked properly."
Mi You frowned. "What do you mean?"
I sneered, "If Mr. Ji really is sick, we will certainly take good care of him."
"But if he isn’t—"
I smiled, "Then we won't have to keep bothering you."
Ji Zhaoyuan panicked. "No! I don’t want to be examined!"
She tightly grasped Mi You's hand. "Mi You, can you take me home, please?"
