He chose the home of a lonely old woman living downstairs.
Since the old woman relied on scavenging for a living, her house contained some rice and flour.
Jiang Zhijun threatened the old woman with a knife and ultimately stole half a bag of rice and two boxes of biscuits.
He returned home with his spoils.
Yao Jin excitedly picked up a biscuit and started eating it.
Jiang Zhijun locked the remaining food in the safe.
He warned Yao Jin, "Make this food last; it needs to last until the government aid ends."
Yao Jin pouted, "Brother A Jun, the biscuits have been sitting for too long; they don't taste good anymore."
Jiang Zhijun replied impatiently, "Eat it or don't."
Yao Jin sulked, "Brother A Jun, how can you treat me like this?"
Jiang Zhijun shouted, "What do you want me to do?"
"I'll tell you, it's chaos out there."
"Even if I go out to find food, it's fraught with danger."
"You can't just watch me go to my death, can you?"
Yao Jin lowered her head and fell silent.
She continued to eat the biscuit without saying a word.
Jiang Zhijun's expression softened a bit as he said, "Xiao Jin, the situation outside is special right now."
"We only have this food, so make sure to ration it."
Yao Jin nodded obediently and replied, "I understand."
"Brother A Jun, you should go eat now."
"After you finish, get a good night's sleep."
"It's too dangerous outside; you shouldn't go out."
Jiang Zhijun nodded. "Okay."
With that, he turned and went into the kitchen to prepare the meal.
Meanwhile, Yao Jin secretly took two packs of biscuits and hid in the bathroom.
I recorded all of this through the surveillance cameras.
Then I sent the video to Jiang Zhijun.
Upon seeing the video, Jiang Zhijun was furious.
He rushed into the bathroom and pulled Yao Jin out, slapping her hard several times.
Yao Jin cried, "Brother A Jun, I was wrong."
"I won't dare to do it again."
Jiang Zhijun coldly replied, "You better remember what you just said."
"Otherwise, I will kill you."
Yao Jin trembled in fear, saying, "Brother A Jun, please don't be angry."
"I'll listen to you from now on."
Jiang Zhijun snorted coldly, "That's more like it."
After saying that, he turned and left the bathroom, starting to search for the surveillance camera.
Unfortunately, I had already hidden the pinhole camera in a discreet location.
He couldn't find it at all.
Meanwhile, I witnessed everything through the monitor.
Perhaps because I had just watched an exciting show, I finished two bowls of dinner.
However, at that moment, I suddenly noticed someone climbing up the outside wall using the drainage pipe.
I was so startled that I immediately held my breath.
My parents heard the noise and came over, asking, "What's wrong?"
I pointed outside and said, "There's someone."
My parents followed my finger to look outside.
There was a young man with dyed yellow hair climbing up the drainage pipe with his hands.
He was agile and quickly reached the window outside our house.
The three of us held our breath in fear.
I quietly stood next to the power switch, preparing to turn it on at any moment.
After all, in the apocalypse, we cannot tell if someone is good or evil.
A man was peering in through the window.
Perhaps realizing that no one was inside, he reached out to try and push the window open.
However, the window was reinforced with Bulletproof Glass and Electrified Steel Wire Mesh.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get it open.
After a moment, he left in disappointment.
The three of us finally breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.
It seemed that choosing this place as our safe house was the right decision.
Located on the top floor and within a newly built Community, it was unlikely for anyone to discover us.
Moreover, since this was a High-end Community, utilities like water and electricity were still functioning normally.
The only issue was that the tap water had been contaminated, emitting a foul odor when it flowed out.
We couldn't drink it.
