Shen Xingyue was organizing her work information at home.
She had just received an offer from a big city where she was studying and would start her job in two or three months.
Her parents were planning to buy her a house in the city, but unexpectedly, her sister-in-law was against it.
Suddenly, her phone rang, the sharp sound piercing the air.
It was a call from her brother, Shen Yang.
"Xiao Yue, hurry to the hospital! Your sister-in-law has fallen!"
Shen Yang's voice trembled, tinged with tears.
Shen Xingyue's heart sank.
"What? What happened?"
"I don't know. I came home and found her on the floor."
"We're at First People's Hospital. You need to come quickly!"
Shen Xingyue hung up the phone, grabbed her coat, and rushed out the door.
Her sister-in-law, Jiang Junlian, was five months pregnant.
The consequences of such a fall were unimaginable.
The taxi sped through the streets.
Yet, to Shen Xingyue, each second felt like an eternity.
Finally, they arrived at the hospital.
She rushed into the emergency room.
"You finally made it!"
A sharp accusation struck her.
Shen Xingyue froze.
Looking up, she saw Jiang Junlian's mother—Mother Jiang.
With her hands on her hips, her gaze was as sharp as a knife.
"My daughter is in this state, and you still have the mind to buy a house?"
Shen Xingyue suppressed her frustration.
"Auntie, I rushed over as soon as I got the call."
"How is my sister?"
"How is she? Are you really unaware or just pretending not to know?"
Mother Jiang sneered.
"If it weren't for your insistence on buying a house, would my daughter be this upset?"
Shen Xingyue was left speechless.
She looked towards the hospital bed.
Jiang Junlian's face was pale, beads of sweat forming on her forehead as she groaned in pain.
"Aunt, what does buying a house have to do with my sister-in-law falling down?"
Shen Xingyue struggled to explain.
"Still playing dumb!"
Mother Jiang trembled with anger.
"Your parents have money to buy you a house, so why can't they help my daughter recover?"
"She's carrying the grandchild of the Shen family!"
"You, as the little aunt, are just waiting for your sister-in-law to suffer?"
Shen Xingyue was left speechless.
The matter of buying a house had been twisted into this.
"Aunt..."
Just as she opened her mouth, Mother Jiang erupted again.
"You really have some nerve! You're about to buy a house and don't even consider that your sister-in-law is pregnant!"
"Do you have any conscience at all?"
People around them turned their heads, whispering among themselves.
Shen Xingyue's face was filled with confusion, unable to comprehend what kind of logic this was.
Just as she was preparing to formulate a rebuttal, a familiar voice interrupted her.
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
It was her parents.
Father Shen and Mother Shen stormed in, their gazes fierce.
"What business is it of yours if my daughter buys a house?" Mother Shen said sharply.
"If you have the ability, let your daughter earn her own money to buy one!"
Mother Jiang was momentarily taken aback.
But she quickly regained her composure.
"You Shen family really know how to act!"
"My daughter is carrying your grandchild!"
"If you have the money to buy a house for your daughter, can't you spare some to help my daughter recover?"
Father Shen sneered.
"The house is for our daughter; it has nothing to do with your daughter."
"You married into our family; what could you possibly lack in food and clothing?"
"Now that you're pregnant, aren't we taking even better care of you?"
"Stop making unreasonable scenes here!"
Mother Jiang was left speechless, her eyes filled with resentment.
She turned to Jiang Junlian, her voice suddenly softening.
"My daughter, look at the kind of family you've married into."
"They don't care about you or the child at all!"
Jiang Junlian weakly opened her eyes.
She glanced at Shen Xingyue and then at her in-laws.
A flicker of resentment crossed her gaze.
Shen Xingyue felt an ominous premonition; this storm was far from over.
The matter of buying a house would certainly not end so easily.
Jiang Junlian suddenly groaned, her complexion growing even paler.
