Slowly releasing the line, the two stepped back a bit, pressing their bodies against the side of the Bridge Pier to increase friction and mitigate their disadvantage. This operation was quite significant, and the situation was not in our favor; we needed to call for reinforcements quickly!
With an unstable foundation and having hooked a big fish, the technique of holding the rod was no longer effective. Now, we could only use a swinging method to control the fish upstream against the current, buying us a little time until Li Ziyu could throw over the Loss Prevention Rope.
As I pulled out the Loss Prevention Rope, I had just jokingly taken it from Shi Tian and Sun Lang, diving into the water without even taking off my shoes. The water in the south was a bit hot; I asked them if they wanted to take a break while I helped them out for a bit! I hung the Loss Prevention Rope on the Rod, jokingly saying I would help Shi Tian with his catch, but I didn’t reach out to grab it.
Upon hearing that I was going to take over, Shi Tian immediately handed the Rod in front of me. This was fantastic! Finally, I could get back on land!
“Come on, this water is too hot! If we don’t get back on shore soon, my feet will be burned raw!”
“Wow, this fish is huge!” As soon as I grabbed the Rod, I was taken aback. No wonder those two couldn’t hold their ground; even with shoes on, I struggled to stand!
Looking back, I wanted Shi Tian and Sun Lang to help out, but in the blink of an eye, they had already circled around the Bridge Pier and made it to shore.
Well, at least these two guys had some conscience. Once on shore, they knew to grab onto the Loss Prevention Rope to lend me some support; otherwise, I would have been dragged into the Yangtze River!
Shi Tian held onto the Loss Prevention Rope while Sun Lang pulled out another Loss Prevention Rope and jumped back into the water to tie it around my waist.
“Big Brother, this Rod is sturdy; just pull hard! If it breaks, you won’t have to pay for it! I’ll hold onto you from the shore; now it’s up to you!” Without giving me a chance to respond, Sun Lang ran back to shore, holding onto the rope and watching me perform. This felt pretty good!
One fish and three people were engaged in a tug-of-war; it was quite a spectacular scene.
However, Shi Tian thought it still needed more excitement. We had to draw more attention to this big fish for an even greater sense of accomplishment!
“Oh wow!”
I shouted loudly, startling Big Brother on the Bridge Pier so much that he nearly dropped the Rod into the water. He turned around and shot me a glare but then saw all those gazes from the shore and tightened his grip on the Rod with a shout of his own!
“Oh wow! I’ve hooked a big one!”
With that shout, everyone released their Rods in Xia Shou’s hands as exclamations echoed all around!
With a surge of effort, Big Brother tried to slowly bring the fish back toward shore. However, seeing more and more people gathering at the shore, he realized his moment of glory couldn’t end just like that; he needed to show off for at least three rounds at this Bridge Pier first!
“Old Niu! The water’s cold; do you want me to help you out for a bit?” One of Big Brother’s friends who had been joking with him earlier about Shi Tian and Sun Lang spoke up as more people gathered.
That fish was definitely not small; after over ten minutes of struggle without showing its head, it must weigh at least thirty pounds!
I had never caught such a big fish before! I wanted to experience it myself. As for whether the water was cold or not—at this point, that didn’t matter anymore!
“Just go rest! I can handle this myself! With such a big fish, you don’t have any experience and won’t be able to manage it!” Seeing my companion jumping into the water already made Big Brother quickly intervene.
“What are you joking about? Everyone onshore thinks this fish is mine! If you say too much and they find out otherwise, how can I keep my glory? Didn’t you see that kid who hooked it earlier? He didn’t say a word; he just quietly enjoyed watching! Why can’t you understand this?”
Seeing that Brother was getting anxious, Shi Tian quickly stepped forward and handed a cigarette to the Bro who was about to jump into the water.
