As soon as they entered the shipping lane, the lights in the cabin went out, and the Air Force accelerated directly. They lost track of direction, only knowing they were speeding up.
Navigating at night required turning off all the lights in the cockpit; otherwise, it was impossible to see outside. The sea was different from inland rivers; on inland waterways, all the lights were usually on, allowing them to see which vessels were nearby. However, on the open sea, trouble could arise at any moment, and with the lights off, a private boat could suddenly appear out of nowhere.
"Xiao Tian, your night vision goggles are impressive! Get me a couple of sets too; I want to replace the night vision equipment on both the Air Force and Mini Air Force!"
At night, there were three essential tools for navigation: radar and night vision goggles. The Air Force spoke up, prompting Shi Ye to immediately rise and head to the cockpit.
Night vision devices for boats were no longer a rarity; they functioned similarly to surveillance equipment with both low-light and infrared capabilities. Most vessels had them, but these were more powerful and clearer, capable of seeing several kilometers away.
"You need to talk to Ye Ge about this," someone mentioned. "These night vision goggles are really useful, especially in foggy weather; their ability to penetrate fog is much better than what’s on the Mini Air Force."
"Uncle Li, you should get Ye Ge to set you up with a pair for your plane as well; it would make landing in fog much easier."
The idea of installing a set on Li Yunfei's aircraft was laughable. The cockpit was already filled with instruments; adding more would be a massive undertaking requiring significant modifications to the plane.
Anyone with common sense would know not to attempt such changes. A poorly executed modification could jeopardize landing safely—how to land then would be anyone's guess!
"Better leave it as is! Even if you modify it, it won't help; you still can't take off in foggy conditions and would have to wait patiently!" This son-in-law was quite thoughtful; he remembered his father-in-law when he came across good things, but unfortunately, this particular device wouldn’t be of any use to him.
With the Air Force operating the boat at night, it made things much easier. After a hearty meal and drink, he lay down on his large bed and decided to sleep until dawn.
When Shi Tianyi woke up, the boat had already stopped. He pulled out his phone and saw they had arrived at Diaoyu Island—was the Air Force planning to take over?
After freshening up, he headed to the stern where only Lu Ya, Air Force, and Shi Ye were fishing. The Three Old Men and Li Yunfei had yet to rise.
The wind was indeed strong, but thankfully there were no whitecaps; they could manage some fishing. If whitecaps appeared, that would indicate winds of seven or eight levels or higher, necessitating a return.
The stronger the wind, the more expensive the fish became—not just because fishing in rough weather was dangerous but also because when winds picked up, fish would dive deep into the water making it hard to catch them even with nets. In such weather conditions, forget about fishing; even setting nets wouldn’t yield many catches.
"Is there even a bite in this wind?" Shi Tian greeted as he approached the three men. He bent down to open the Ice Chamber—empty. Then he opened the Living Water Tank—also devoid of fish. Were these three just here fishing for solitude?
"Are you all awake? Hurry up and cast your lines! This kind of weather is when you catch big fish!" He pulled on his rod while Lu Ya sighed helplessly. "How did I end up with two crazy people? Why come out fishing in such strong winds? Wouldn’t it be better to sleep in the cabin or head back to port? If not that, we could always run south past the Ryukyu Islands into the Philippine Sea where there’s no wind!"
Seeing their rods bent at odd angles from their efforts, Shi Tian didn’t know what else to say. With such strong winds and currents, it would be a shame not to let these old men enjoy some sea breeze!
Rushing back to the cabin, he had no idea which room the three old men were sleeping in, so he decided to knock on each door one by one.
Knock, knock, knock.
“What’s going on?” The door opened and Li Yunfei stepped out.
Wrong door!
“Uncle Li, let’s go fishing! It’s windy outside, remember to put on your life jacket! We’re taking the old man out for a breeze, and it wouldn’t hurt to have you along too!”
Upon hearing Shi Tian call him to go fishing, Li Yunfei's eyelids drooped. “I just came down from above. I went fishing this morning and spent three hours flying kites. I didn’t catch a single thing—not even a nibble. What fish are we going to catch?”
Flying kites was similar to freshwater fishing, but the current was much stronger, making it impossible to keep the line steady.
If there was no wind, even with such strong winds, one could still manage a little. But with the wind blowing so hard, it was impossible to get a good cast.
With such a strong current below, fishing was out of the question! What a pity; this wind would last for two days, and it seemed like there would be no chance of catching any fish!
He had picked the wrong target; Li Yunfei had just crawled out of that pit and wasn’t falling for it again!
