Kang Ziyu had been on his mind for quite a while. The little duckling he had just bought was fluffy and a soft yellow, indeed quite delightful. However, after raising it for over half a month, the fluff had worn off and it had grown, losing some of its cuteness.
"Is it far? If not, let's go buy it tomorrow morning! If it is far, we should head out now; we should be able to make it before dark," he said.
"It's not far; it's just in the next village. Walking there won't take more than twenty minutes!" Upon hearing that Shi Tian planned to reel in his line now, Liu Yi immediately protested that it wasn't far.
"We've been fishing for half the afternoon already; the fish are drawn in. Who knows, we might get a bite soon. I don't want to reel in now," he insisted.
"Then let's go right now! I'll drive you over; it won't take us half an hour."
"Before we go, let me set up a spot for you to ensure you catch a big fish—something over three pounds!" Shi Tian said. Liu Yi felt like cursing; this guy was not following the usual plan!
Turning around, he grabbed a bag of carp bait and tossed two handfuls into each of the old men's spots. Reluctantly dragging Liu Yi along, they hopped into the car to buy the ducklings first.
It really wasn't far; driving took only about twenty minutes. Liu Yi wondered if he had wings—if it only took twenty minutes to walk there, he could probably break a record in race walking!
In a cardboard box, Liu Yi helped pick out twenty ducklings while the owner generously threw in two extras. With a cacophony of chirping ducklings stuffed into the trunk, Liu Yi urged them to hurry. At the car door, he noticed another old man was still fishing. Before the car had even come to a complete stop, Liu Yi was eager to open the door.
But his urgency was in vain; Shi Tian had already locked the doors, ensuring safety for the elderly and children by locking them up.
"Is your door broken? Why can't I open it?" After several attempts to pull it open without success, Liu Yi considered rolling down the window to climb out.
"Don't rush! We can only open the door once the car is stopped! Just relax your hand; otherwise, you won't be able to unlock it." With that reminder, Shi Tian pressed on the brakes and brought the car to a halt. He opened the door, and Liu Yi dashed towards the old man.
"Xiao Yu, here are the ducklings you wanted! But these little ducks are afraid of the cold; we can't leave them outside!" After getting out of the car and greeting Kang Ziyu, he placed the ducklings on the ground while Shi Tian grabbed a landing net and headed toward the lake.
The old man's rod had a decent-sized fish on it, and since neither of them had a landing net, if Shi Tian didn't help out, bringing that fish in would be quite challenging.
By the time Kang Ziyu heard the commotion and rushed out from inside, Shi Tian was already sprinting out of the yard with the landing net in hand.
"Don't pull on the line! I've got the landing net!" Seeing Liu Yi reaching for the line, Shi Tian shouted as he ran toward the lake while assembling his net.
Once he had put together the landing net and took over the rod from the old man’s hands, catching fish required some skill and teamwork; otherwise, they might lose it altogether!
With one dip of the net and a gentle release of tension on the line, they successfully caught a fish weighing around five pounds.
"Liu Yi, this fish is probably not as big as that one you caught a few days ago! It's not even half a meter long!" Without needing Shi Tian's help to unhook it, the old man rushed over and firmly pressed down on the fish.
The tail of this fish was almost bigger than Liu Yi's previous catch! After removing the hook, the old man proudly teased Liu Yi before pulling out his phone from his pocket and handing it to Shi Tian. "Quickly take some pictures for me!"
