Looking up at Kang Ziyu, who had insisted on living a pastoral life despite my suggestion to add a zero to our budget, I couldn't help but think that we needed to be more realistic about our finances. A hundred thousand yuan was already quite a stretch. Both of us had graduated only last year, and if we had been looking for jobs right after graduation, there was no way we could have saved up that much by now.
So, I decided we should start with something more ordinary and save up for the fancy bed later! Clenching my small fist for encouragement, I watched as Kang Ziyu carried a small cart into the yard and began selecting items.
After finishing the cleaning, I took a stroll around the back. There was a patch of woods behind the yard where we could enclose an area to raise some chickens and ducks. Raising chickens was out of the question; they were too smelly. Ducks would be better! During the day, we could let them roam in Taihu and just feed them in the evening.
Once we had some money saved up, we could hire some elderly folks to help take care of them—at a hundred yuan each, it would still be profitable. "Crown Princess," I declared jokingly, "please approve a thousand yuan in funding; the prince is about to start a business!" Back in the small courtyard, I pulled out my QR code to make a payment, which startled Kang Ziyu into quickly stuffing her phone into her pocket.
"A thousand yuan? That's so much! What do you plan to do with it? You need to submit a feasibility report first!"
We had downgraded from a wooden frame bed to a Yulin bed, and now we were down to a density board bed. Kang Ziyu looked like she might as well sleep in a tent at this rate. Last year's dream of selling Iron Plate Squid in the city seemed so far away now. The equipment cost was one hundred yuan, ingredients and seasonings four hundred, and transportation and meals another hundred. My target profit for tonight was around three hundred.
I thought Iron Plate Squid had become obsolete; I never expected it would still be useful. Making around three hundred in one night showed that I remained optimistic about our venture. Three hundred a day meant we could break even in four days if Crown Princess approved this project! Scanning my phone, I transferred one thousand yuan as startup capital to Kang Ziyu. She rushed back inside to change clothes before following me into the city.
The equipment was ready; once we paid, we could take it right away. We dropped it off at the unoccupied Fishing Tackle Shop and hurried off to buy seasonings and squid. This stuff couldn't just be set up anywhere; we needed to practice at the food street. After preparing the ingredients, we pushed our little cart over to the food street, but all the good spots were already taken. We found a corner and set up there.
Before getting any orders, I decided to grill two skewers first. With that aroma wafting through the air, how could we not attract some customers? Just as I started grilling the squid, I realized that its smell might not be as enticing as Kang Ziyu's looks. As soon as she stood in front of our stall, a line began to form behind her.
"Do you want squid or squid skin? Would you like onions? Spicy or not?" With customers lining up, Kang Ziyu quickly rushed over to help me.
After two hours of hard work, all our ingredients were sold out. We had spent over eight hundred of our thousand yuan budget before even pushing the cart back to the Fishing Tackle Shop's entrance. Kang Ziyu had already calculated our earnings.
"Tian Ge! We struck gold! We made four hundred yuan in just two hours! If we prepare more ingredients tomorrow, we'll break even in no time!"
With an extra four hundred yuan profit, Kang Ziyu's eyes sparkled with joy. The profit from Iron Plate Squid was indeed high; it wasn't uncommon to make two or three thousand in one night. Even with average skills, one could sell around forty skewers for about a thousand yuan.
This was just the beginning; once we made enough money, we could rent a yard and start an agritourism business—it would be so much easier! With a triumphant smile, I felt my strength increase as I pushed the cart forward.
His little courtyard wouldn't be suitable for a farmhouse experience, but if he rented another Farmhouse Garden and tidied it up a bit, starting a rural leisure business could still work.
Unfortunately, without connections or customers, it seemed he would have to pick up fishing again!
Alright, when I get back, I’ll start planning. Once we have enough funds, we’ll rent that courtyard! It’s right next to ours, and the scenery is beautiful. There are plenty of fishers around, and locals go there to have fun. There’s definitely business to be had!
