Jian Qiang Ge had withdrawn, and the four Big Carps still hadn’t improved his situation at all. It seemed that Jian Qiang Sao didn’t like eating Carp. If he were to encounter Jian Qiang Ge again, Shi Tian thought he should suggest that he try fishing for sea fish; perhaps that would lead to better rewards!
After packing up, they tossed the fish back into the river. With so many fishermen living in the villa area, their home had become a storage base for fish at the hotel’s cold storage.
As they loaded their gear into the car, a few old men squeezed into Shi Tian’s vehicle, while Sun Lang was relegated to Shi Ye’s car.
“Xiao Tian, why is it that when I fish with you, the bites are so few? You’re not calculating fortunes before heading out, are you? Does Old Yi’s method really work?” Old Wen casually asked from the back seat as the car started.
Today, Old Wen had decent luck, catching three large fish over five pounds each. Aside from those already sent back to Jian Qiang Ge, he had the best haul among them.
But how did three fish relate to fortune-telling? Hadn’t they caught big fish before? During these past two days at Yuehu, hadn’t they caught several over ten pounds?
Before Shi Tian could respond, Old Kong spoke up first. “Do you think fortune-telling can be explained scientifically? From a macro or micro perspective! They say science ends where metaphysics begins; maybe metaphysics is just unrecognized science!”
As soon as Old Kong finished speaking, Old Wen immediately countered: “It can’t be explained on a macro level; it has to be from a micro perspective. When in doubt, quantum mechanics?”
“Quantum? What’s that?” Xiao Tian asked. “You read a lot; you studied science. Do you know what quantum is?” Old Kong and Old Wen were casually discussing this topic, and one mention of quantum left Old Kong confused.
What did this have to do with him? How did it turn into a discussion about quantum physics? If he explained it to them, would they even understand?
“Quantum isn’t an object; it’s just a concept and definition. You can think of it as the smallest unit of matter,” Shi Tian replied casually. He worried that the old men wouldn’t grasp it, so he gave an example: “A drop of water contains countless water molecules; you know that, right? If you break down water molecules further, you get hydrogen and oxygen atoms. And if you break those down? You get protons and neutrons.”
“What we call quantum is something that can’t be divided any further. But as science progresses bit by bit, how could something at the micro level not be divisible anymore? So quantum is just a definition; it’s not an object!”
Listening to Shi Tian’s serious explanation, Old Wen felt somewhat pleased.
“Not bad! Quantum isn’t an object; photons and neutrinos are real objects. But quantum can be used for communication—remember our Quantum Satellite from last year? Now that’s something!”
Two old foxes were diving into scientific discussions? Was this self-inflicted torture?
Old Wen set the stage, and Shi Tian immediately seized the opportunity.
“Old man, that quantum communication satellite doesn’t communicate using quantum; it just uses quantum for encryption! With current technology, we still can’t achieve quantum communication. Although it’s branded as quantum technology, the communication medium has little to do with actual quantum!”
Finally managing to put Old Wen in his place made Shi Tian feel a small sense of pride.
