A silvery shadow surfaced, and with a swift motion of the gaff, it hooked the fish right in its belly.
"Pull it towards the stern! It's too high here to lift it up!" shouted Shi Tian as he dragged the long gaff towards the stern. The bow of the boat was much higher than the stern, making it inconvenient to handle such a large fish here. Moreover, this fish was big; one gaff wouldn't be enough to haul it up. At least two gaffs would need to work together!
As they circled around to the stern, Lu Ya picked up a short gaff and hooked onto the fish. With two gaffs now securing its body, the fish was finally stable!
At nearly two meters long, this Dogtooth Tuna was quite a rare catch! Shi Ye glanced at the hooked fish, thrusting his rod against the side of the boat. Lighting a cigarette, he rubbed his slightly sore arms; although the fish wasn't particularly large, it had taken quite some time to reel in, leaving his arms feeling swollen and uncomfortable.
The Dogtooth Tuna had been visited by a Dharma Shark before getting caught on the Fish Hook. Air Force and Sun Lang came over to help. The fish wasn't heavy enough to warrant using a crane; four people could easily lift it aboard.
Weighing over ten pounds, this Dogtooth Tuna was more exhausting to reel in than a larger fish weighing over twenty pounds. Thankfully, this fish was worth some money; otherwise, they wouldn't even cover their fuel costs for chasing after it.
Despite its name, the Dogtooth Tuna looked only somewhat like a Tuna but wasn't one at all—more like a distant relative. Their only real connection was that they belonged to the mackerel family, scientifically known as naked fox mackerel, which is part of Katsuobushi.
Many deep-sea fishermen prized this species; some even traveled to Africa just to catch big Dogtooth Tunas. Whether on the eastern coast of the Indian Ocean or the western coast of the Atlantic, those waters produced significantly larger specimens. The biggest ones could grow just over two pounds before reaching their limit.
Having learned from this experience, Shi Tian was now more cautious. After handling the fish, he pulled out his Electric Reel and prepared his line on the Qian You rod. "If you dare come back with another big one, I won't be afraid even if it's five pounds!"
"Jun Ge, let's go! Time for revenge! Where there's one fish, there are many—we'll catch them all!" After securing his hook, Shi Tian waved it around excitedly, determined to challenge some big fish today!
Nearly two hours had passed, and that school of fish had long since disappeared! Handing Shi Tian a cigarette, Air Force squinted and smiled slightly. "Let's get moving! We can cast our lines again and see what we can catch!"
Despite chasing after those fish for so long, they hadn't traveled very far at all. In just about ten minutes, they returned to their Fishing Spot. Everyone switched to larger rods, rubbing their hands together in anticipation of landing a big catch!
With a cast of his rod and letting it sink deep before reeling in ten meters of line, they quickly caught a Red-tailed Silverside. These fish often came in large schools; within an hour, they could fill a basket!
"Black Tooth Belt! A bit small!" A small Ribbonfish came up—Sun Lang looked somewhat exasperated.
This fish wasn't particularly tasty and had quite sharp teeth. If not handled properly, getting bitten on the leg could lead to quite a troublesome situation!
Among deep-sea fish, Black Tooth Belt had one of the poorer textures when eaten. They reported the water depth to keep everyone cautious—best to avoid fishing at that depth!
